Got a load of black walnut headed my way. I know the BTUs are pretty high so should I be as excited as I am? :) The picture depicts about half of what the load will be when done.

I had to complain petty hard to get them to remove a dead ash in my front yard that was a few inches from the primary line. They kept telling me that it was my problem while my tree guys said they wouldn't go near it. That ash will be heat this winter.

I had to call the ORU forester a few times to get them to agree to do it. The contractors seem to be willing to do anything if they are on your street doing the regular trimming. They took down a cherry for my neighbors that was much less involved with the wires.

I would be in Bergen county. ORU services a small slice of NJ.

I think 2 years will be perfect. Last year I burned it on 1 because it was what I had and some of it did great and some not.

I use it in between shoulder or day loads when the cold sets in.

BW's not bad. Alot of ashes, bark is a mess, coals very well, smells very good when burning, splits very nice usually. Dries pretty quick, needs 1 full year plus, 2 years is very good. If you can deal with the ashes and bark (does not really bother me) it is pretty good. I personally would put it between cherry and red oak despite what the charts say. That may just be my stove or my location. It's darn near too pretty to burn. I almost feel bad putting it in the stove (I said almost). Actually, I'm pretty sure that is walnut burning in my avatar. I will definately not turn down walnut.

It has been a long time since we've burned any walnut. That may come to an end though as my wife was talking to a neighbor who said there walnut trees are coming down! Not sure how many there are but I'm thinking about 10 or 12. I've already committed to taking down about 14 pines this winter for them. That wood will all go to another nice guy who goes by the screen name of wishlist. He doesn't get online much until winter and I just remembered I have to clue him in on the new forum but perhaps Pete has done that already. Not sure but I did see him last week and he is doing fine.
