All you can do is your best...no shame in that.

I'm ok. Probably have double what I need for this year. So, what's left should be well under 20% after another year and a half. I haven't had the benefit of really well seasoned wood. The best I have isn't probably as good as the 3 year people, but I've done ok. Probably would burn less if it was all primo. I know what people mean when they say good stuff takes off easily on a reload. That and less smoke would make it worth it to work ahead.

When I started on a forum, I would watch what Sav would always say about getting 1,2,3 years ahead on your wood inventory, when I bought a log load of beech that's when I realized the sickness had set in but that load helped me get three years ahead.

Without doing much work this year we'll still be 5 plus years ahead (thanks Sav) and I also want to thank Scott and whoever else started this site up and for keeping the political chit off.

It's about this time of the year you realize that all the time you've put in on your wood inventory is soooooooooo worth it, people around here are just getting their firewood for this year.

Probably the most important part of administering a civil forum, and it is being managed well here.

Thanks for the good word Zap. And I've always watched your wood stacking. Great job (except for the t-posts  ).

    Thought I'd update this thread.

Took a shot of my small hoard from my pickup bed today. Looks like a lot of splitting to me :)

most of those rounds look like fairly easy splitting. Looking at that big maul on the right, I guessing you do your splinting without the use of a machine.

Yeah, the maul is for the stack of $#%! elm...my Fiskars handles the rest.

My Father in law gave me a splitter a couple years ago, but I don't use it. Although I may use it for some of bigger elm rounds that are behind the hackberry stack.

I don't know how anyone can split elm. That stuff is near impossible. Anyway, good looking stacks there.

Thanks....it's not much compared to a lot of guys on the site but it keeps us warm...several times in fact! :)

It's fun to look back on what I started with and compare it to what I have now.

Nice rounds. You stacked them before you split them? Now that brings new meaning to wood warming you several times.

I have one of those mauls but I can hardly handle it, it is so heavy. I started out using it and decided that the used electric splitter I brought save a lot of wear and tear on my body. I might drag it out of the shed and have a go with it; I should have Hercules arms after using it for awhile.

I went for a walk around today and was looking at an old road that will give me some access. I also looked at some old fells that I think still are sound and think I might be able to get some more wood cut to start my 3 year plan. Since I got started late in burning this year, I will be ahead for next year.

We finally got rid of it this past week. It's been white here all year, but it hit 60 yesterday. Now it's mud season for us. Ugggg. :)

Yeah...love the look of a clean yard with the rounds waiting to be split. That and it keeps the grumpy neighbor lady a bit happier. :)

Kimberly you might build some muscles but you might also screw up a shoulder.

It is a mix, tamarack, Dougas fir, lodgepole and other pines, some aspen. They all burn.
