Loaded truck pics.

Just a truck is way simpler getting into and out of the woods. No turn around worries. But I still take a trailer with the truck most times to maximize my loads. Plus it keeps me from overloading the truck as bad.
If you like the trailer and it works get a bigger trailer. Thats cheaper than a truck. But I'm sure pulling a 12-16 foot loaded trailer with your sport SUV would tear it all to pieces and wreck the granny.

 

My current hitch isn't set for towing a bigger trailer than I already do. Now Audi made, and offers in Europe a hitch that is said to tow nearly 8000 lbs.

Audi USA pulled that hitch from our market years ago ( when the q7 was made) and it's not available here anymore. You can find them used for big bucks, and you can buy ones fabbed by the aftermarket. Again not cost effective. The tranny isn't the issue, the motor isn't either, the hitch is, and I opted for a rare v8 version rather than a couple of the 2.7 v6 twin turbo base models that had the hard to find factory HD hidden hitch.

I could also use my wife's 4runner that already has the proper 2" hitch. That's the easiest solution to a bigger trailer I don't have.

Kind of loaded??

From the recent winds. No this is not my SUV. Just one I saw today while at work.

 

It's not even an SUV. It's an a6 wagon with height adjustable air spring suspension.

I'd never tow that much with it, even with the right hitch, but guys over in Europe tow v8 inboard ski boats with these cars all the time. 3500-4500 lbs boat and trailer.

 

Needs airbags. Lol

 

Proof that "pretty" trucks get used too. My 2015 Chevy 2500HD High Country with a decent load headed to my Dads house.

 

Got my first full load on Saturday the 26th. My oldest son(12) went with and we had a great day. Blue skies and the temp topped out around 50 with a hint of a breeze to keep one guessing on the proper layer config. All in all 1.75 cords of greenish pinion pine.

I can fit that much just in my truck.

First post.

2000+ pounds of wet eucalyptus testing out the tritons suspension on the rough roads.

Cut with my stihl 034(360) and Makita dcs500 (dolmar ps510). And split by hand.

I've had more in the back before but I think this is pushing it as it is. 1.5m3 or about 7/16 of a cord. Split to be big 5 hour logs in the wood stove

 

Nice truck and saws! I've got on 036 and a 7900 Dolkita. The 036 is probably the perfect firewood saw.

I need to get back in the game once I get my newly acquired Ford 3910 up and running. It's going to be my new firewood foraging machine.

I love the 03460 frankensaw. Its about just over 5kg dry (11.6lbs) and about 4.5 or so hp thats pretty hard to beat for an all around saw. especially with brand new p&c and 2 new bars and chains.

I bought the Makita new first and was having some problems with is due to a manufacturing fault (dont think they torqued the cylinder down or something) was running low compression and power and eventually scored the piston. When that was down I picked up the 034 thinking that the 50cc was gonna be underpowered anyway. Makita was really good though and rebuilt the saw and threw a few accessories and oils and whatnot my way for the inconvenience.

The Makita runs really well now and honestly is enough saw for what I do but the 03460 runs so darn well that I have to keep that saw and probably will run it more than the Mak. But its good to have 2 saws.... saves time refueling and chain sharpening... thats my excuse anyway.

Oh yeah this is my wood heater. a big insert made by a local company. Pretty sure it's not the most efficient based on they haven't had it efficiency tested or haven't published the figures lol. Prob 50-55% but a big firebox that will take a 25" log and throws allot of heat which is good when your main living area has 7m high ceilings and not the best 8insulation

 

Good stuff. I like to have two saws just for the simple fact that you can get the other one unstuck. I got my 036 at a pawnshop for a real good price. It's amazing how much lighter and less bulky it is than my 039 with about the same power.
