That was the text I received yesterday from my wife. As the story unfolded, I found out that it had sort of been on the fritz for about a week. Yesterday it stopped working at all.

It's all about timing. Yesterday my wife's Ford Explorer had a class III trailer hitch put on for a total of $365. No trailer break. Come to find out that would have been another $200. Honestly I did not know that a trailer break did not come standard when you put on a trailer hitch. Lesson learned. Fortunately I put that hitch on to tow a small 5' X 8' trailer now that my dad got rid of his truck. Anyhow I told you this as I just spent this extra money as I had set it aside.

For the dishwasher, I don't have any extra set aside. Unfortunately any extra I had set aside was eaten up due to being out of work. My response to the wife is that the kids should wash the dishes until we can afford to pay cash for a replacement. That didn't fly whatsoever. I had to tell her that we are not putting a new dishwasher on the credit card.

Maybe I should have create a go fund me account like Kayne West.

You put a trailer brake system on for a 5X8 trailer???

Agreed on the kids can wash dishes also. Give you time to look for a model on sale/clearance, no?

"Go fund me"!!!

I think someone beat you to it.....

No. He did not install a trailer break. If I had told him I might tow a camper with it, then he'd have put in a trailer brake. Lesson learned. We don't have a camper now, but might get one in the near future. If we do, then I'll need to have him put in a trailer brake.

Ours is broke, we are washing dishes by hand. Your kids should be able to handle it.

No dishwasher in this house but me, although we do plan to put one in at some point.
There was a portable one here when we moved in, but it died back in '08 or so.
No trailer brake needed for a small trailer. How big will the "camper" be?

Never had a dishwasher. I watch everyone I know who has one rinse all the dishes and fit them into the machine just so, and figure I could have just washed the dishes by the time they were through. And wouldn't have to replace the machine every couple of years, to boot.

Like others have said, no need for electric brake for small utility trailer and when and if you need one you can buy them and install yourself. I think I paid about $70 for one on sale about 8 years ago and it took me a few hours to install.

If you plan to get a camper, do yourself favor and do the homework on what your Explorer can safely carry and tow including passengers and camping gear and camper. If you push the limit you may find yourself in trouble or buying a larger tow vehicle....ask me how I know

Funny, we have a dishwasher at home but when the kids were younger and we go to the cottage or camping in the RV, the kids used to love to do the dishes by hand. They used to think it was fun...not so much anymore

how old is the explorer- most of the ford trucks already have the wiring installed so all you would need would be the controller itself that is providing the connection in the back is 7 pin somewhere along the way. there is a pigtail under the dash for the controller. even my 99 350 was already wired

Washed dishes by hand for 37 years - and that was when I didn't live alone. Won't kill the kids to do it for a while. Only have a dishwasher now to save water (holds 3 days of my dishes then uses 3.5 gallons of water for the whole cycle) and keeps the dishes from cluttering up the sink/countertop until there are enough to make it worth doing the dishes.

Not sure if you have electric or gas hot water, or what either of those cost you per gallon/cu.ft./kwh. But at my house, with electric hot water heater and the cost of electricity being so high up here, it's more efficient and cost effective for me to run the dishwasher than to run enough hot water to do the dishes by hand :hair:

A huge pet peeve of mine is someone turning on the hot water and just letting it run non-stop while washing dishes.
    I'll have to stop there...........

And those who turn on the water and let it run while brushing teeth.
Or shave, and brush teeth in the shower.
    Ok, I'm done hi-jacking.

If you do that at my house your hands will be burnt. The boss likes hot! water for some odd reason.
