I have an Enviro M55 Cast Iron Pellet Stove that was installed in November 2014. So it's through almost 2 full winters (well 1.5 since this wasn't a real winter). Over the last week or so, the convection blower started making those awful noises indicating the bearings were going. Then last night it got so bad you couldn't even have a conversation in the room. And then today, it was running noisily then stopped working completely. I shut the stove down. I have my repair guy coming (I believe it's a warranteed part) but not for 5 days. So the question I have, is it bad for the stove to run it without the convection blower? Is the purpose of it to push the heat away from the stove to protect the stove? Or, is the purpose just to make it more "efficient" by blowing and dispersing the heat? Thanks!
It helps to prevent high temperature shut downs along with the distribution of hot air. It's gotta work to keep the stove operating in a safe manner.
Thanks everyone for the quick responses. This forum is awesome. Spent the night reading and reading and reading some more. And yes, I figured the convection blower was more than just to move the heat around. It's a mild night, like +1 C, but the "boss" has 2 blankets on because she is used to it being so much cozier in the basement. Oh well, I guess we gotta suck it up until we can get that blower blowin' again. Thanks again!
That's too bad that you are having this happen after such a short time. Enviro has a good reputation so you likely got a motor made on Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend. How hard is it to get that motor out and would the dealer/manufacture have sent you one free of charge? I ask this because although you lucked out with warmer weather that may not be the case next time and waiting 5 days in a cold snap is no fun at all. Hopefully the tech is bringing a motor with them and does not have to order one. Additionally, does that motor have oil ports or are the bearing/bushings sealed? If there are oil ports, make sure that a few drops is part of your maintenance chores. Keep us posted and welcome to the forum !!!
Motor is very easy to replace especially on his free standing unit. Problem is the OEM replacement is pricey, but it sounds like he's still under warranty.
In that case, are there oil ports that might have got him going again? Even it is only until the repair tech gets there....
