Glock G19, Gen 3 for my wife. It is my carry gun, but was a nice size for her to get used to shooting.
That sure came out wrong in reading it several hours later. What I meant to say was, aren't all y'all glad I'm none of y'alls wife due to my habitual use of firearms inside the home to kill something outside for many dinners to come? (shooting across the kitchen through a slightly opened patio door, not once but several times) That could be detrimental to ones hearing!
I was at the gun shop one day and a customer was telling the guy behind the counter that he wanted an AR for in-home defense. I was thinking about how loud that would be indoors.
From a tactical perspective, it is not a bad option, but you are right. I am pretty sure that most of my hearing problems came from CQB operations, even with ear pro.
Any firearm fired inside a home or other enclosed area is going to be loud. The sound waves are being reflected back towards you, where outside the sound waves are going away from you. The larger the caliber, the louder the bang. The rifle I was using in the house holds the 7.62 x 39 shell. The first time I fired it in the house, I about soiled myself, the sound was almost deafening. I may have to try that with my little FireFly just because. But no way with the 12 gauge, that is unless there is an intruder and that's the closest firearm I can reach at the time. (All are loaded with one in the pipe at all times. Just flip the safety, aim, and pull the trigger) On a slightly different note, regardless of the type or size firearms one decides to use, the same should apply to the rounds as well. There are some that are designed to stop an intruder/attacker, but not kill them like the Glaser Blue Safety Slug which also would present a lower recoil. Personally, I don't change out from hunting rounds to wound rounds. And I don't use birdshot in the shotgun. (either 00 buckshot or rifled slugs)
Don't underestimate bird shot. Even seen what #4 shot does to, well, pretty much anything? As far as a "non-lethal" load....that's a bunch of crap IMO. You shoot to stop the threat. Period. If it happens to be fatal, then that's what happens. I don't want to kill anyone, and I hope I'm never, EVER, in the position to have to. But, if I have to put a hot one in somebody, it will have the very best chance of stopping the threat...in whatever form that may take.
^^^x1000. If you've done something bad enough for me to shoot you, your not getting shot once, or with a normal round. Your getting as many defense rounds as the given firearm holds......

I don't really underestimate bird shot, but I don't generally shoot birds. Maybe the occasional turkey, but buckshot works well. Takes the head right off! The rest, right on! Whatever it takes to stop the threat!
I have fragmentables in the self defense pistol, have not seen them in a while. probably considered inhumane and taken off the market? do not shoot like I used to, not up to date. for those that might not know what they are, they penetrate and break up into small pieces creating many wound channels so they bleed out quickly, just in case they are still alive after 2 in the A zone.
With the political climate of today's society, it is in your best interest to shoot to kill. Long gone are the days of firing a warning shot, or shooting to wound/slow. You do anything other than respond with lethal force, you will get prosecuted to the fullest extent and locked up. The rationale is that you are allowed to react with equal force and do what is necessary to respond to the perceived threat. Since a gun is a deadly weapon, your use is a statement that you are in fear for your life. Therefore, if you do not respond with lethal force, you are using a deadly weapon to mitigate a threat that you do not consider life-threatening. Sorry for the rant, but I have had this conversation MANY times and wanted to share. At the end of the day, I am allowed to protect my family and while my definition of threat is different than that of my children, I am allowed to respond in their defense.......and you better believe that I will respond, swiftly, and will terminate with extreme prejudice.
