I see 1 ton trucks grossing 30K almost daily. Not saying it's safe but can't remember any wrecking locally. I've never hit 30K on my 3/4 ton but have been across private (local truss co) certified scales at 26K 25.2 on the way home from a 45 mile haul. Yes, you need to have your head right, lots of experience helps, and there is no stopping some circumstances- but it pulled AND STOPPED fine at highway speeds (excellent trailer and truck breaks). I consider most things in life risk management, like burning wood.

ETA: Correction, I just went out to the truck and looked in my notepad, truck/trailer was weighed/figured separately --- 25.2K lbs total.

Getting caught at those scales by the wrong set of eyes with 26K on a 3/4 ton pickup is an expensive set of bragging rights.

    Too rich for my blood.

Don't know about the other brands but with a ford its 20k max 3/4 or 1ton in the 99-03 era. That's why I didn't mind to go with the 3/4.

Is that GVW or gross trailer. Dodge is advertising 30K gross trailer which would put the GVW around 37 or 38.

A buddie let me use his 03 1ton dually duramax 2 years ago hauling some. It road like a dream. My brother was driving it when it overheated. He couldn't understand why till I told him those bales were weighing a ton a piece.

I have a '99 f350. The tow ratings are pathetic compared to the newer trucks. But hauling a 12k trailer on a crowded highway feels about right for the truck -- can't see 25k, physics don't support it :)

Total weight-truck+trailer. Dodge wouldn't have sanctioned it any more than DOT.

Yeah, with any green silage you might as well be hauling a tanker truck full of water.

The LB7 had a lot more problems than the others with the injectors not holding up to offer 10 year 200k mile warranty for them. The later 600 series cummins had injector problems also. I've changed them as low as 50k on stock trucks. The lack of real good filtration is the downfall for them. The 6.7 injectors seem to be a lot better than the last 5.9 injectors. I like a 12 valve best as they can take almost any fuel and no computer to run. I wish I could sell my 11 and go back to a 97 or 98 really.

The problem is finding one worth having. I love the Cummins diesel but the wrapper around it in those years you can keep!

I have a 2004.5 LLY, it wasn't exactly what I wanted but it's been a good truck so far. The truck sat a lot outside on a gravel drive so the rockers are shot(or will be after this winter). I'll have to burn some new ones in next year. Other than that it's in nice shape shape. The Ford trucks the beds fall off the GM trucks the rockers suck! Yep they all have problems. :)

    Busy has the ultimate. A 91 f150 4x4 with a 12v 5.9 cummins in it with a manual. One bad A truck.

I had one of them. I didn't like it compared to the torque of the cummins. If I went Dmax it would be an 06-07 for the 6 speed allison. It drove a lot different to me than the 5 speed.
