Put in a new gen, oiled pump and put a dab of oil on fill cap gasket. Pumped it and could feel pressure build but there is no go. Burned off the mantels and then tried to fire up and nuttin. Pumped a little more and noticed a bubble hiss. Hows the screw cap seal or adjust? Or do you think I have a valve issue?
Swiped a fill cap from another lantern n it still is bubble fartin. Thinkin valve issues. How big a job is this? Can I just snug the packing nut and maybe cure it?
might be just a bad genny, wouldn't hurt to pull the F/A tube plus the valve assy and give um a good cleaning.......
What explains hearing the bubble hiss sound while the valve is off and no pressure should be going to the gen then?
how long does it hiss?, it may just be slowly bleeding off what pressure was initially there.......i'd still try a different genny first and see what it does......
this Wenzel is for sale close by me for 85., not sure if that's a good deal or not, don't know much about them..........
The little I have read up on them I think it is within reason. I have one about 2 hours drive away for about the same price. It is more of a display piece than practical so I haven't pulled the trigger. Sounds like it is a Chinese copy of a German petromax for about 1/3 the price.
Not an Coleman but was able to feed my lighting addiction and give my wife a birthday gift she loved at the same time. Have both the electric burner and kerosene burner for it. More pics on barnwood creations thread.
So I'm late to the party, I know. I have been waiting to get my 3rd stove back from bead blast, but its going to be a few more days. Not a big collection but I have a few pieces I got really cheap that I use strictly utilitarian. Weather here can be sketchy at times and I like to have backup food prep and lighting handy, so I have been buying up coleman stuff on the cheap when I see it. So heres what I have: - Small coleman white gas (do I have that right) stove. I bought this for a dollar, rebuilt it, painted it OD green with GI logos and have used it many times. - Large coleman stove, same chemical, just got this a few months ago. Have not played with it yet. got this for under $5 - Another small stove but that takes unleaded gasoline. not pictured. long story short a friend wasted the finish with chemical he was brewing. (redneck gun blue, nothing nefarious). so now my buddy has it and is blasting it. I will refinish when I get it back, probably also OD green with GI markings. sad cause it was brand newish, but also probably paid 1 or 2 dollars, so not a huge loss. - THEN - Today I FINALLY got a coleman lantern. For $1. Looks rough but was presurized when I got it so no holes. It would not build pressure when I first got it. I took the pump valve out and finessed the leather? gasket a bit, reinserted and now builds pressure; maybe not like it would when its new, but I think its decent..?? I tested all of the main functions and can light up the expelled atomized fuel. So I think I just need the bulb thingys? So as you can probably tell, I don't know a whole lot about these things and would love any input as to what I should do to get this thing to good safe functionality. There is a wire knob on the side that I used to help start it but do not know what it is. - AND FREEBIES IF ANYONE WANTS THEM - Today I also got 2 propane lantern setups today, one colman, the other maybe coleman? See pics - The small one has original box and has broken glass. - The large one is what it is, see the pic. If anyone wants/can use these you can have them. I'll cover shipping in the continental US. (prefer to ship as a pair)
I could be interested in the little L/P jobs, maybe work out a trade for whatever you may need for your GPA lantern, or a good used lantern, I've got many!..........
You can have them, no need to trade, just pay it forward. My thinking is if we both pay shipping we'll have more tied up in it than its worth. Just send me a personal message with a shipping address. It will probably be going out early next week fedex, so a PO box will not work. but, I could use some of those cloth sack things for the lantern I got yesterday. if you have some that might be something you can send for the price of a stamp? just thinking out loud. either way, get me your shipping info and I will get these out to you. enjoy!
Potato Potato... I guess that phrase loses some meaning over text. but you know how to read it properly in your head.
..oldcolemanparts.com is our friend in the lantern/stove world.."CigarMike" is the proprietor and is a gracious host. Lots of knowledgeable and good people there. I currently have a 1973 220 cooking in the electrolysis bucket, stripping it down to bare mettle..poor ol' lantern must have been left out to sea it's so rusted up. A pic before dis-assembly. It'll be a while before i start re-assembly.
My Sears Big Hat, pretty good condition. I guess they only made this model for 1 year in like, 1963 or '64. Made by Coleman and it has original globe in it...NOT one I'll take fishing!!
