These are odds and ends from when I was cutting for the PH (last cut on the log). They are 12" - 14" for the most part.

I'm really thinking about this stove all the sudden... a burned-through burn pot (second one) on my 1.5 yr old pellet stove and high cleaning intervals has got me thinking about going back to all woodstove heating.

Has anyone found any real images of the rustic themed one? I think I'd like that one the best but I'm unsure of the wings. Secondly thinking of the wingless but still decorated simple prairie. I just find real pictures of the stove, preferably on a hearth, look much more realistic than a 2d drawing.

Is the rear vent the same height as the Fireview?

A third Absolute Steel thread has started, elsewhere. No pics there, yet. Nice to see Woodstock has a number of them out in the wild!

I had one stack of wood shorter than what the PH takes (pic from early January, below), and it measured out at one full cord. We've burned about 75% of it, so now I'll have to get serious about shortening some of my 21" splits. Fortunately there are another 5 cord of that right here in the woodshed.

Great pics there Dennis, thanks for sharing. Hope I'm not derailing the thread. :emb:

HDRock, I'm confused, you say you like the one without wings but that one has wings [IMG] or do you mean plain wings with no artwork?

I mean, I like that color and artwork design but without any wings on it :)

The stove kind of grows on me. I think it would look better in person.
This pic here is really good one to show off how this stove can have some appeal.
As this is a side loader, I think cleaning the glass would be more of an issue for me. I like to swing my front loading door open to ean my glass and
not have to stick my arm into the stove to do so. As I clean my current stoves glass when there are still hot coals in the stove.

Yes I agree, of the two I picked out I think I'd like the most, the 'simple prairie' is very much like that one and without the sides. Although the sides behind hammered in that one does look nice, and I like the copper version too.

Yeah I've heard others with side loader like the PH, FV, etc mention this. It is a long reach to get in there and the stove better be cool! Heck even with the easier to clean ISH front loader, BDF ordered a whole extra door just to swap a clean one right on!

IMO the Ideal is pretty good at self cleaning. I have had mine down to a full catalytic slow burn and completely coated the entire firebox and door black on numerous occasions. So black you couldn't see inside it at all. But a good high burn or two after cleans it right up. I don't believe I have cleaned my glass yet this winter and I installed it at Thanksgiving, it's currently plenty clean enough. I don't think I'll need to clean it all mid season at this rate.

It is convenient not having to mess with the andirons every time you load. I know they can be removed but I still like the look and the protection so every time I flip em down.

I like the color combination of this one below. Would like to see them make a wingless version with some kind of asymmetric decoration. My guess is there are more than a few people whom would like the stove sans wings but still have options for color/decoration.

Ken, from Woodstock, had mentioned that it would be interesting to see how well the stove handles less-dry wood. I brought a small pile of Sugar Maple that was cut down in the Fall of 2014 and CSS 10 months ago up to the house, and plan to burn it this weekend while we are around to watch the stove. I started off this evening with a deep coal bed and put three of the maple splits on. It was burning, but about the way you'd expect, and I was chilled from feeding the cattle. So I threw on some dry splits and will pursue the experiment with the overnight load. Right now strong secondaries and 600 STT - ahhhh!

Where are you putting the thermometer to get your STT readings?

Here - it seems to be the hottest spot on the stovetop, and I use it to guard against getting too hot. The lid isn't as hot due to the extra shielding. Well, the back half inch of the lid is the hottest, but I can't fit the round thermometer. The overall hottest spot is often just above the door.
