My new toy arrived on a slow boat from China. I was wondering if it was going to arrive before the end of burning season. I will be able to test it on some green wood as well as my seasoned wood. I worked on clearing a small road into the back of the property where the dead red oak is sitting. There is a small dry wash that I am trying to fill with old unusable logs and such; wish I had a small bobcat or similar. There was a tree that had to come down, not a large one but in the way. It was crooked so I was doubtful I could drop it where I wanted it to go but I did. Therefore, that tree is fresh cut and I can test my moisture meter on it as well as the wood stack.
I need to put some batteries in my new toy and go split some wood for testing. First was a hot cup of cocoa from working on the road. Anyone nearby with a bobcat? LOL.
No, I am not going to take photos of the readings. However, I will post the readings and anyone will just have to accept that I won't lie.
Actually, the picture isn't so much for the reading itself, but to see how your taking the reading. This is how I do mine, taken a few minutes ago from wood that has been in the house for a few days, then back outside to split where I took the reading. Yes, that is snow on the ground!
I split two pieces of the sweet gum I have been burning; mainly the sweet gum because I figured it would be seasoned, and two pieces of the poplar. I took two readings in each side of the splits. Sweet Gum; Split 1 10.2, 10.1 10.8, 10.3 Sweet Gum; Split 2 11.1, 11.2 10.5, 11.2 Poplar, Split 1 12.6, 12.0 12.0, 11.9 Poplar, Split 2 12.3, 13.3 13.6, 13.3
Cool you got a moisture meter, just be sure you have it set on the right function, log, wood, Firewood whatever but not building materials cuz if in that mode it will read 20 to 25% low
Is that like a tree that falls in the woods without a person there makes no sound? Technically that is true because sound is defined as the reception of waves. So while there is no sound, the compression wave does exist. So while there are no pics, the tree is still just as cut. I will take a photo tomorrow.
We cannot help ourselves it is like chainsaw forum protocol. Pics or it did not happen. It is just what we do, but hey I am patient and can wait. Nice Moisture Meter.
I'm gonna use that next time I here some smarty pants sound off on the tree falling thing. I may or may not ask your permission
I hated to cut such a small tree; however, it was easier than trying to manoeuver around it. Plus it will eventually be used for heat.
