Dave, you should be able to do like we do. Usually in July or August I go out on our sand hill and take a couple buckets, sometimes more and just skim the very dry sand off the top. Getting the dry stuff is necessary else in the winter it will freeze and that won't help when you need the sand. We keep a gallon bucket of sand in the car (and that has already been needed) and a 5 gallon bucket on the porch. Throw the sand on the ice for traction and also because dirty ice melts faster than clean ice. You have plenty of areas near you where you can get sand like this as there are lots of open areas right next to many roads. Just take a drive with a few buckets and a shovel and help yourself.
I just watched the weather report, we could be in for 6-10 inches (starting on Friday night) depending on the track, along the northeast coast could see the heaviest snowfall.
You need to sand,sand sand!....Nobody needs to "Break a hip"....I had my drive sanded heavy twice in the last few days....
I live on mostly sand. It's everywhere. Dennis has been suggesting to me that I should gather some during the warmer months, so that I have it in the winter months. More specifically, our normal January thaw. I have yet to do it. Maybe this year.
Yea Sand & ice cleats for outdoor work when it gets bad. Don't have to be old to get hurt. Cheap insurance to buy sand & ice cleats (and use them ) compared to the cost of broken bones
A little cold snap for a few days but not like last week. One of the forcasters I like said the long term for late January looks like some arctic blasts again. Bring it on and freeze everything hard. That's what I'm talkin bout.
