Anyone heard anything like maybe a 462 from Stihl or sometjing fast, light and sexy from Husky? No, not their calendar girl!
Its not "new" but I should receive via Post Office tomorrow afternoon a very strong running & cosmetically good Mac 1-85 gear drive monster - 95cc/5.8 cubic inches of torquey badness. Scarce model,just produced from March 1961 to April 1962.Kind of an oddball,very similar design to their other more common 80 & 87cc gear drives sold a few years before plus the 99 & 103cc ones sold after,but not many parts on the 1-85 fit those other models. Almost like the 1-85 was a prototype or experimental model somewhat.They also had a scarce 1-86 gear drive a few months later - it was 99cc & by 1964 was revamped as the 840 with a few more added features. This replaces my rough looking seized 1-85 parts donor.Now I'll have a runner & the donor will be put away in storage.
I heard the 441 is being phased out. Currently, If you want it, your dealer has to order it from Germany. I'm not surprised it wasn't well loved by many pros.
Yes but my point is they need to replace it with something. But most are saying the new saw in testing is a 461 replacement. Husky has the 372 with talk of a replacement 572? in testing. Why would Stihl not replace the 441 with a 442?
A saw with 441 ergos/tech with 461 grunt would be a logical replacement to both models but I'm not so sure that's what would happen. The 441 and 461 are very different machines in the same class for a reason. If the 572 turns out to be as easy to work on and as fit and trim as the 562 is, Stihl has their work cut out for them. There will be no place in the 70cc class for a bulkier, mechanically complex machine like the 441 was.
I totally agree! They need to go back to the drawing board and take a hard look at the 044 and shoot for a true modern version of that in both weight and dimension. I agree with MasterMech something with less weight and more grunt would fit the bill. Not only did the 441 I ran feel heaver and clunky it didn't have any grunt like my old 044s did.
If stihl built a modern version of the 044 i would have to have one. I agree with you guys the441 is too bulky for a 70cc saw.
Saw a little baby 193t at the dealer last week that looked nice. Made me miss my 191T. Have not seen any info on it anywhere. Anyone try one of these out?
I can't speak to the 193t as I've yet to try one out. It's a pretty new saw. There does seem to be info on it at the stihl website. If your looking at top handle saws don't forget to check out the echo 355t. It compares favorably to the ms200t at half the price. It's about the same price as that 193t for more saw.
That's why I went with the Dolmar 7910. Pretty much same weight as the 441, but i felt it had better balance in my hand. Much better torque and power too. Especially after gutting the muffler.
I didn't think my 441 was lacking in power stock, even with the 28" bar. And whatever talkin' to Randy gave it seems to have made a proper attitude adjustment. My 460's were a bit stronger but the difference stock was small. I think the user feedback plays a role here too. I have customers that are in love with a saw because it's an "animal". These saws are usually loud (muffler modded) and have less than stellar A/V.
Ya i got my want on for a dolmar the 6100 or 7900 7910 i dont really need another saw but you know how it is.
I have heard they are fantastic after a good porting. I don't know, I ran muffler modded 044s for so many years I guess I just expected more from it. The stocker I ran didn't feel like it had the same torque. To be fair I only put a tank through the demo saw the dealer gave me to try. Maybe it wasn't as broken in as he claimed. I do know it took my ms241 a bit to wake up. Great trim saw by the way. The 441 did have good AV and the tune was always a perfect 4 stroke that cleaned up in the cut. I liked that alot. However, when I tried the Dolmar I liked it so much it was an easy choice to pull the trigger on it. Does anybody know if Stihl is planning on replacing both the 441 and 461 with this new mystery saw?
My favorite saw is my 461 but my 562xp is spoiling me with how smooth it operates. I am anxious to see the latest from both stihl and husqvarna in the 70cc class. I can't remember where I seen it but the ms 362c had a newly designed clutch cover. Found it.
