I took three damaged ironwood today with the pole saw. Pic 8430 & 31 are the first tree, pic 8432 is the second tree, 8433 is the mighty pole saw, pic 8434 is after I dropped all three trees, pic 8435 is the "turd" tree after I dragged it off the side hill, the rest of the pics are from hauling it out and what I stacked the last two days. I had to call it a day because the track was getting real sloppy, I made it inside an it started to rain pretty good.
woodlands, I think your addicted to this I would give anything to have what you've got there. What I see you doing and posting all the time makes me think, one day if I retire, I'm going to get me a piece of property like this. I miss our woods in Northern Michigan so much. I remember all through my growing years going out and taming those woods. If not in this life, I know what my home in heaven is going to look like.
The plan was for putting the saws on the shelves for the winter so we could snowmobile, mother nature forgot to provide the snow. We're lucky we were offered the property, the woods is a great place to just unwind. Mother Nature makes a ton of work with all the storms but if you stay on it you have a fighting chance. I hope you get your property when you're on this side of the dirt.
Wow, you guys out east really had a warm-up. We did too but not to the extreme that you got. They predicted 40 but we didn't make it. Still supposed to be warm a few days then a brief cool-down. I think it won't be long before winter is back but it is always nice to get a January thaw.
I'm ready for some colder weather, not like that last chit we had. We've had more rain than we needed, bring on the snow.
Sure you do, I'm ready for a break when the heavy snow comes. Chvymn99, thanks. I'm not sure when it will be ready but it's nice firewood. NEA, we'll take all the good stuff mother nature puts down. I'll be working that area for another two years, last spring & summers wind events put down a chit load of wood.
Dennis, it is weird. Got up to 55° yesterday. It's 44° right now. Lit one small fire this morning and it was to warm in here.
I'll take days like this, not a huge qty., but some nice btu's. We're all tired of the freezing rain & rain, the county snowmobile trails are open ( finally done the clearing) so bring on the snow.
Too much snow here to get in the woods with my setup, so I love seeing this stuff. Every little bit adds up to a lot...as you well know. I think we're done with our January thaw. Everything is a skating rink around here. More snow please.
We're still getting some nice temps, the highs for the next 3 days are, 44,38 & 36. The rains we received on Saturday got rid of plenty of ice & snow so I should be good for another week or weekend of cutting depending on what these Clipper systems bring this week.
Wife fell a couple days ago, .....I almost fell yesterday. Ice is not welcome here. Shopping soon and will pick up some ice melt that's eco-friendly, if I can. Forecast temps and actual temps are fluctuating so much recently, I don't know which way to slide. ETA: I know you will, but more pics please, if/when you make it back out.
I hope the boss is ok, we hate the ice too. We can do the more pic thing, I'll get a pic of the area I'll be working this spring after I'm done with the Maple, years & years of wood on that ridge from the wind events last spring/summer. We'll be expanding our stacking area come springtime.
Nice haul, woody! I'm with you.......sick and tired of the rain, waiting patiently for some snow. Every front that comes through goes like this.......warms up, rains like hell, freezes, REPEAT!! Sick of the rain!!
I'm glad we bought used sleds! The county snowmobile trails are finally cleared from the ice storm, we just need the snow but I don't see anything coming in this week or weekend, guess I'll have to cut more. Once I get that Maple bucked up and some other trees, I'll have over a cord of wood since 2014, it's not much but it's more than I usually get done at this time of year. The real mess is around the house, tons of pine branches down from the ice storm.
She's ok, sore from tensing up to try avoiding the fall and I think she bruised the muscle or bone in her left hip. Nothing broke, but that's a matter of time if I don't get something on the walk. Looking forward to the pics. I'll be doing some once things start melting this spring. I need to really crank some wood out this year. I didn't do enough last year.
