I hope you are up for it. I know a lot of folks do it, but ................. As long as it is the job you want, go for it and enjoy!
I'm a little late getting back to your thread- but a belated Congratulations to you boettg33 . I hope everything works out, sir! You can really read up on some FHC if you take the rail
I've been making an hour and a half ride to work for the past year or so. Then I did it for four years in a row which ended three years ago. Long rides don't bother me.
Good for you. I am not keen on long travels for work. Or anything else on the regular, for that matter. Once a year I make the 6 hour one way trek to my folks, and cringe at that thought, too.
I'd prefer a nice short ride to work. However; the state of RI is not keen on big corporations. Not enough where I'd find a job locally. In order to find a job in what I do, I have to seek work in either Connecticut or Massachusetts. Someday I'll have a job that is just down the road.
Too many years of driving 1 hour one way....through all types of weather. Then for awhile, it was two hours one way! What was I thinking???? Cuts into the day way too much.
First off, congrats on the new job. As to the commute part, I hear you; at one time, I was living in central RI and working in little Silicon Valley, north of Boston. Not only was the ride lone but it was ugly too with some of the nastiest, most aggressive drivers I have ever seen (and I am including NYC in that statement). Brian
I used to see one accident per trip but only on good days.... bad days had between 2 and 5 accident victims on the side of the road. The commute was only about 50, 60 miles but the 'accident zone' was only on the north side of the 128 strip (part of I-95) on the northern side of Boston. Once in a while, there would be a crunch where Rt. 128 peels off of I-95 on the south side but they were much less common and usually much less damage (merely a little 'hull battle damage' from three cars trying to fit into 1 1/2 lanes). The accidents on the north side were almost all accordion types; I think they probably needed to do more talking on their cell phones while driving like insane people.... Brian
