Ya, you have that one right. It happens, but thankfully not so much anymore around these parts. Lots of vigilant folks won't put up with it and report animal mistreatment. My little furry friends are my buddies. They are costly to have, but I think I am better of with them.

Timely subject. Shadow had a swollen side of her face Thursday morning. Vet said that it might get worse before it gets better. Must have been a bug bite. In the afternoon her whole face was swollen so back to the vet. She got a shot of predezone (?) and antihistamine. things look normal until Friday afternoon. She started throwing up and diarrhea. Vet visit again and she gets antibiotics and Zantac. Shadow won't eat at all. Last night at dinner, she wolfs down pills and food but still going outside quite a bit. During the night she threw up quite a bit. This morning, she wouldn't eat so I can't give the drugs on a empty stomach. I got some crackers and milk into her so she would have something to throw up. We came back at lunch and no signs of throwing up. She is turning her nose up at rice and beef, peanut butter with drugs and yogurt. She did eat a few crunchies at dinner. She seems to be drinking lots. Fortunately for me she gets outside for the diarrhea but not so for the throwing up.
I am thinking that as long as she gets a bit of solid in her a couple times a day and she keeps drinking that it will work its way through her system. I would really like to know what she got bit by that started all this.

Did the vet do any blood work? Hydration is number one for now. Consider some chicken broth. (Real chicken broth)

Blood work was all good. Shadow is the grey and tan dog - our youngest. She will be 5 in May.

I like the chicken broth idea. I will work on it tomorrow. I'll let you know how she does tonight.

Still not eating. I made chicken broth last night and she drank about a 1 tbsp. going to try egg this morning.

tried the egg. She won't eat it. Syringed about 1 tbsp of chicken broth into her after giving her the Zanta. She tried to throw it up. She is refusing to eat anything.

I hope this passes soon. Something I learned recently was that when a dog vomits, its stomach is volatile for awhile. As long as she's drinking something, hopefully this corrects itself.

No fun when you have a sick one to watch over. Got to wonder what is up. I know you are doing whatever can be done. Hard to wait these things out.

Yes, we saw that in the woods! :picard:your fear about the chicken bones must be over for now. I really don't blame you for being hyper alert after what you have been through. Maple is simply one of those who puts everything in her mouth. I don't think you do, but for everyone with a dog who chews things up, please avoid any cheap toys like the ones in dollar stores. They are not good in anyway for your pet, not the toys, balls, or chews. toxic.

Mostly Kong stuff, no squeakers...... outside yes, when not kept busy, she'll get into stuff. The leave it command is tested when there is deer & fox poo around. Weird, but normal from what I've read, and usually needs a zap correction. Amazing how much better her scent is when its cold.

Up since 1:30 this morning with Giz. Calling it the Valentines Day Chocolate Fest. She's chit from one end of this place to the other. My honey has been going nuts trying to keep up with clean up. Giz has blown up so many times, she looked like a brown dog from the rear. She wouldn't eat early this morning or take the meds either. We finally switched gears and got some chick & rice made up... got some in her at 9 along with the Imodium. She won't drink water. Shortly after I took her outside and she blew out a lot. It's so cold here right now that any chit stuck to her freezes in seconds. She was such a mess we decided we had to get her in the tub and clean her up. That was about 10:30. She has been sleeping since, but as I write this, she's starting a low grumble/growl... her guts are still messed up. Round 2 coming up... :picard:

Sorry to hear your going through this too Woodwidow ... hope Shadow starts eating soon.

I have been able to get about of 1 tbsp of chicken broth mixed with gastro dog food syringed into her about every 45 mins or so. She doesn't want to take it but she is getting it. I gave her a Zantac this morning and I think the little she getting is staying down. I am supposed to be giving her antibiotics as well but she hasn't had enough food in her tummy to handle it. I think if we can get through today without her upchucking again and then starts eating more, I can start with the antibiotics again.

Stinny Fortunately for me, she has been able to get herself outside for most of this, it is mild and she is a short hair dog. I don't envy the white long haired dog problems you are going through. Hope it sorts itself out quick.
