Who says heating with firewood is a lot of work, messy and brings creepy crawlies into the house? These little bundles with the handle in top crack me up every time i see them in front of the supermarket.
Heck, I think the plastic wrap would give off more heat than the wood it was holding together. Ratty looking stuff
I have seen these for sale in several towns here in oregon. The wood is almost always half rotten pine, but in about 8 out of 10 cases it is labeled larch or oak I
I see you are from Paulina. I've spent some good times in the Ochoco National Forest, and have stopped in Paulina. All the bundles of farwood that I've bought in Oregon, usually on the coast, were not great wood. At best there was Douglas fir. When we camped in the national forest there, I'd simply gather firewood laying around.
I see your from se wisconsin, Ya theres no need for firewood bundles in almost any national forest, plenty of down stuff to grab for camp wood. The bundles are for more the state park camping thing. Horkn are you a former oregon resident?
No, but my wife moved here from Portland. My oldest brother still lives in Portland, and my other brother lived in Portland too for a number of years. I almost moved to Portland twice. We'd camp up in Ochoco, John Day, Mitchell, etc.
I'd bet the TSC bundle only returned $2 to the person that filled it. Not exactly a great deal for them given the extra labor for creating the bundles then delivering them to umpteen stores.
Gas station near me has sawmill bark slabs cut down into ~16" pieces. Looked to be as much bark in the bundle as there was wood. "Splits" were about 1-1/4 thick.
