Mostly Ash with 3 splits of Pignut Hickory And its cold here tonight as well.. Gonna be below zero tomorrow night. These are current temps now (about 74° downstairs/ the pellet furnace sucks all the hot air from down there. Otherwise it would be about 85°). And 5° outside under my enclosed porch (no wind and encased in plastic).
I have an OAK on every stove. The Enerzone is upstairs. It doesn't get run when the pellet furnace runs. The woodstove heats the air in the basement. When the pellet furnace blower turns on, it sucks the hot air from the basement and shoves it up through the ductwork upstairs. If the furnace was off? It would be much hotter downstairs because the air would sit down there and need natural convection to help it move up the steps. The furnace is what helps equalize the temps because it's constantly kicking on and off.
Ah. Ok. For some reason I don't recall the Enerzone from last May.... Then again, by the end of Fri evening, I don't think I was recalling much of anything Guess the furnace in the Basement rang in as the Enerzone- didn't get to talk wood heat much with ya then- just wood cuttin'!
I was thinking of this thread earlier and thought I might give a shot of the Buck but I have been trying for about 90 min. to burn down an Ash/Cherry coal bed.....I think pretty soon she is going to get a few splits on top and call it for the night. This is one of those nights that I used to love the old smoke dragon.....get it loaded, cut back and take a walk outside to see the smoke going straight up. No air moving but colder than a well diggers....well you know.
Best I could do for tonight, hickory and oak mainly. Here's a shot of the load smokin on ignition, must be a slight breeze.
I was not feeling well last night so wife loaded the stove. She isn't going to entertain any picture taking! lol Cold air has set in around here too. Next couple days will be chilly.
Shaped them up with the CS-670 a few months ago. been drying by the stove since then. The big one just barely fit through the loading door.
Nice!! Here is tonight's load. Two 3 year old Ash splits and five 4 year old Pignut Hickory splits! Took a little shoving to get them in there!! I'll post a pic of the coal bed and stove top temp tomorrow morning/afternoon (around 11'ish)!!
Now there's improvement!!!! I saw TROGDOR a few pages ago, and had to read all the posts. I don't know why I didn't look at this thread before? I've been getting a lot of coals recently, so loading the stove full is tough. I have to empty ashes tomorrow. I'll get a loaded stove pic upon reload.
I'll be watching for that! After reading of the success and feelings you have for your upgrade, a nice loaded pic will be gooder
I like that thermometer. I take it that the 97° is there hottest its ever seen outside, and that's a memory figure? The -10 you have now is the record low its seen?
