Between the different types of rodents, they can raise hell with equipment.

My daughter called me up last summer and said her AC was not working.

I go over and check it out figuring that it might have popped a fuse (happened before)

    Nope, fuses all good.

    Hmmm

Further snooping revealed that the control wires (2 small wires that activate the outdoor unit) are severed near the unit and look to have been chewed.

    Rodent ?? nope, THE PUPPY

Why the wires were not inside the flex conduit with the rest of the wiring is a mystery, but the PUPPY destroyed the control wires and when they were severed the ends shorted and fried the electronic thermostat as well.

I used to move 4 plus ton from garage across the front of the house, down a hill and into the basement 5 bags at a time by wheel barrow. After 5 years of that, i said screw the front lawn and now wait for the ground to freeze a little bit to lessen tire tracks in the soil and for the lawn to begin to go dormant and use the truck.... 30-35 bags at a time. Way easier on the body and its quicker.

My other method was carry one at a time on my shoulder: up 3 stairsfrom the garage and into the kitchen, through the hallway and down the basement stairs. That was done a few times to get 20-30 bags at a time but it is hell on the knees.

Back a few years when we ran the Quad more we would load 10 bags at a time on the "laydown hand truck" and wheel them into the basement and down to the storage area.
Not as tortuous as you describe, but tiring.

Doing our shell thing with the dumpster and trailer is no where near as easy as when we had the dump truck.

Now it's a day thing to do a dumpster full.
Before, I could do a full load, fill the barrels and be all done in a couple hours or so by myself.

This weekend, you probably wont have to open them since they will be frosty and pre opened

Although I have been told if you leave bottles horizontal, they wont blow open.....never tried it though, and you are a can guy. In some areas, I love good cans, but for this I preferred to be bottle fed. :p

WE see teens here from time to time, and it's brisk, until the North winds start to howl.

When we get real cold there is always a big wind element with it.

Single digits around here are nasty because of the wind.

Only seen ZERO twice here at the ranch in my life but the last time was 2011 and it sucks.

The big issue is watering the horses.

Break the buckets and the get the water turned on, fill every body up, drain the hose, turn off the water and drain it below the slab in the barn.

This crap gets really old after a few days.

WE are not really set up for it long term.

We have a cold weather plan and it works, but is a PITA

All the hose bibs on the house are drain back types that never freeze, but the barn has to be used then the line drained out.

It has a quick shutoff with a drain cock, but its still a nuisance.

WE had a few days earlier that we had to drain things, but it was only low 20's

Just cold enough to make more work for us is all.

You can keep those MINUS ######### THANKYOU

It is a regular occurrence so I have a heated waterer for the chickens that can keep it liquid to -10F, it will likely be lower than by tomorrow morning. Later today I'll fill it to the top with water and it might just make it until I can give a dose of hot water in the morning. I used to run 2 coops the smaller one I rotated gallon waterers during the day and placed inside the garage after dark. Not fun but the girls had their water most of the time. Well the stove might get left on tonight for the first time this season. Now to watch those cartoons, lots more dreck on pluto.tv you just need a browser with ad blocking turned off for that domain and decent rate on your internet.

Supposed to be close to -40 with the wind chill overnight. We are under a Wind Chill Warning starting at midnight tonight. I don't plan on playing chase the 'yotes with a boom stick this evening.
