Gorgeous floor! You mill that yourself?

PS- Make sure you pick up that crayon laying in the back left corner before it melts all over the wood floor!!! ;)

My apologies... I'm going off track for a minute here.

Machria Yes, that is custom flooring. For that particular space we used some "scrap" steamed walnut. I bought the rough lumber from Craigslist. The guy selling it bought it at an estate sale. It was all the odd ball, knotty, sapwood scraps from a cabinet shop that went out of business. They would have used this as "secondary wood" for the inside of drawer and backs of case work, etc. All I know is that I got it really cheap and then had it milled into tongue and groove flooring and it came out great. In fact, we liked it so much, I actually worked with a mill (Horizon Wood Products, Kersey, PA), to get us some more "sappy" walnut to do our bedroom. This time we went with unsteamed to accentuate the contrast of the dark heartwood and the light sap wood. Here's how it came out. newsbrief/sappy walnut flooring
The rest of our house has red oak flooring from trees from our forest... but that's a whole, long, 'nother story.

Jeez I get busy with softball and doing everything in the house with the wife laid up after her knee and hip surgery, and you guys go and put up this great thread. It brings a tear to my eye to see these wonderful setups.

One thing that I never really stopped to consider is how many of you are running multiple wood stoves or wood stoves and pellets stoves at home. Very interesting. This makes me wonder how many cords each stove eats in a winter if you have multiple wood stoves? It also makes me wonder if you run all of them all of the time?
