The parts are worth that easy. You could part it out and probably net $100 on ebay. May take time but you could do it.
Some of those parts are harder to find. Looks like a good bit older saw. I have a 451 that I am in the process of getting back working . I had the recoil fly apart on me as I took the wrong thing apart changing the rope. Now its a giant paper weight till fixed.
Yeah it sounds like it's running too lean. I've also heard of some older Stihls like 041 had a faulty ignition coil that caused similar symptoms.
I have an 032 that I'm leaning towards bad coil. It was running but kind of all over. Not idle well then it stopped on me. If its coil I bet its cause it was warm. I had a husky 372 that I though was a bad carb as it would crank up fine but not idle or run long or well. Then would just stop. Let it sit a day and fire up but ran all wanky. The more I messed with it I thought coil. I had a parts saw so I swapped coils and that was the issue.
We shall see, I'm waiting to hear back from the guy. he was asking $60, the cheapo in me offered $40, he said nope. I replied with the old saw, hasn't run in a year and parts are tough to find. We agreed on $50 son now I'm just waiting for the call for when and where to pick it up.
