Never saw any chicken bones in my dogs poop, but then I didn't poke it apart. They seem to digest them, without problems. While I know they have been reported to be a problem, my dogs eat them while they are moist and fresh. Like if I am eating chicken wings, they eat chick wings. Same with drumsticks etc. I am not suggesting you feed them like I do, I am just saying my dogs get what I eat (no, I don't eat the bones) unless it is something like onions, grapes, chocolate and most processed foods. I give them cooked and raw veggies, no margarine, just real butter. The love cooked peeled potato, raw or cooked carrots, cooked broccoli and Brussels Sprouts, green beans and about any other bean. We always cook extra just for them to have a small portion. Meats I try to limit the fats just as I do for myself. They get small amounts of human foods and mostly their grain free dog food. a dry kibble.
So long as Maple is acting OK, I wouldn't give it too much attention. Remember, she is apt to eat about anything, You can't always see what she snatches up. You have to go by behavior and what you witness

Makes me wonder just how the world the entire canine species survived all throughout the ages by eating birds, grouse, foul, etc?

Raw is OK, the issue is cooked bones being brittle and sharp. I might be fooling myself, but my dogs get the bones while they have meat on them and are moist. I would never let my dogs have dry chicken bones.

The bones would still be a bit moist, I agree, while the meat is on 'em. And from there, they go immediately to another moist place, right?

If the bones have been out on a counter for awhile, yeah, I spose the best place for them is in the garbage.

We would always put out the turkey carcass after dinner and let the woodpeckers/other birds knock themselves out on it! Thing is, the whole carcass would always disappear after a day or two. Would go the route of a racoon or feral cat or whatever....

    She's a cute little bugger.
That's some sad crap there with those puppy Mills.
Animals like that take some extra time and patience for sure but will pay dividends after a while.
All of my animals came from different shelters in the area.
The one crazy Deaf cat I had, knocked a couple of paint cans off the ledge and redecorated my basement :hair: she used to hide a lot but I didn't have any trouble finding her that day with the paw prints:rofl:

We're wondering if Sandy will ever really be into chew toys including soft squeaky ones. She's obviously never had the experience before now. She doesn't even know what to do with them, even after watching Giz with hers. No interest at all. She's slowly getting more into walking around with me, but within a minute or so she heads for her safe zone on the couch. Doesn't matter of course. She is now content, to just be content... and doesn't even budge anymore when Giz walks by. While other folks on here have been taking in rescue dogs for years, and are used to these kinds of things, it's new to us. Very different learning curve for Sandy vs the other 3 dogs we raised from a puppy. My favorite thing now is having her fall asleep in my arms. Can't seem to get enough of that... ;)

Stinny have you tried bones or antlers? Antlers have marrow inside that most dogs can't resist.

Just tried a teeth cleaner thing with a meaty inside... wouldn't even touch it. Will try the antler idea. Thanks.

Some dogs don't really care for toys regardless of their upbringing. Had a grayhound mix (my last dog), which I got "used" from a family. they handed over everything, including toys (so I know he had them). He had no interest except for a rope that he could play tug-o-war with our other dog (but not with a human). Other than that, nothing. He was challenging to work with as he wasn't motivated by toys or food.

Had a Husky that we got when 8 weeks old - he disdained toys. His father was the same way. His sister (brought home at the same time), loved toys. Rawhides - now those he loved.
