Well my old craftsman has been through many tables and used a lot its time for an update! I decided to take it off the legs and mount it in my bench. I found a nice fence system at work off a very old table we no longer have and was told that I could take it home. All I did today was cut the hole out but its a start!
I really like that you have a shelf all around to put pencils, tape measure, rip fence, push sticks, etc. I want a shelf now.
Craftsman bench saw, late 70' or early 80's. Iron top with extensions. Basic fence. I'm thinking a sheet metal shelf off the front just for the small stuff. I use the digital tilt box angle finder a lot and would like to keep it local to the saw and not off on another bench.
Hmm I am gonna look through the shop I am sure I have a pile of old duct and maybe some thicker sheet metal! I can send it your way if you need some!
Thanks for the offer. I'm sure ill run across some soon. I have another storage idea if the shelf doesn't work.
Hey Pallet Pete , hard to tell from the pic, but is the saw table flush with the bench top? Almost doesn't look like it. How will you access the tilt and elevation cranks?
Ok Pallet Pete, Nice looking project. But, my question is, "where the hell is the Delta Unisaw that you got that fence from?" The Unisaw with that fence is really the ticket. When that fence was sold with the Unisaw it was, I believe, a $150 upgrade to an already $1800.00 saw. If you got the Unisaw laying around I will take it off your hands or get it out of your way if you will.
Yes sir it is. I reinforced the back of the 2*4 with steel and cut a notch for the height. The tilt has plenty of room. I used some osb off a PALLET ( Gasifier lol ) today to build a dust collection box to sit under the saw. It works great! the saw can also be covered with the cut out to keep it clean and still use the space. Its not perfect but works. I made a push stick too based on one at work and am making push blocks as well. All in all a nice setup coming together.
We use very nice saws at work and have replaced them over the years. I tend to take anything of use off the old equipment and store it for later use when we get rid of stuff. This saw was long dead and the fence has been floating around the shop for years. I was given permission to take it home and well thats an offer that cant be refused!!! The fence systems we use are easily $500 by themselves and this is actually a little lower quality than the newer ones we have but its still a thing of beauty!!!!!
Custom Bysemeyer precision fence systems. I cant go into detail as its custom to us... Competition and all.
Another excellent fence is Jet exacta systems very nice version of the stock Bysemeyer setups. They are a little easier to adjust too.
Really nice job Pete I had a uni fence on my Delta contractor Saw, nice versatile fence, I really liked it. The Accu fence on the Powermatic is great fence to,, I made it real sweet with a digital readout on it. Once you get everything set up with dust collection, boy is it so much better, especially when the cat comes in and thinks the sawdust is a great litter box Some kind of a downdraft table or box is really nice for sending, maybe your next project Here's the one I built in this thread, Deluxe radial arm saw station | Firewood Hoarders Club
Neat! I purchased a Skil tablesaw years ago when Lowe's would put them up as a Black Friday offer; they are sold mainly as hobby saws. It has been sitting in the box since then. If I can get the shed cleaned out; it was built mainly as a house for Dad's 8N tractor but my friend helped me to put up a canopy so I can back the tractor out of the way and still be covered. I could have used the tablesaw when I cut the plywood for the hearth, I cut the plywood by hand and it is slightly off square. I like what you have done so maybe I can build something similar for my tablesaw and start using it.
