Well the mom in law is buying my 13 so I'm stove hunting officially now. I like this Madison but really need facts on the burn times. If I can get 7-8 I'd be very happy. More would just be a bonus.

Bringing it back on subject, good for you. Did you check the other forums? I saw some discussion a while back.

Yea I'm flipping back and forth. Getting anywhere from 7 hours to 10+ depending on conditions of course.

That seems to be a pretty good burn, no?

Andy with amfm energy has one for 730 with slight blemish. I got my 13 from him for around 600 and couldn't find the first thing wrong with it

I am not sure anyone else on the forum has one. I can not tell you anything about burn times but one would guess you have to get longer burn times than with the 13-NC. If it is deciding against the 30-NC and The Madison then I would compare the firebox sizes; although draft does pay a roll according to what I have read here; I would not think The Madison would draft more than the 30-NC but I am new to EPA stoves, never used one in my life.

Two reasons I went with The Madison, one, I liked the looks better; two, I did not have to build that R2 value hearth. I also ended up paying less than I would for the 30-NC from the Durango Home Depot.

I read one review where even after 14 hours there were enough coals for a reload.

To elaborate, I was calculating in the extra cost of around $120.00 (from Menards) for the material to insulate the hearth.

If you have the room, go with the 30 and be done with an established stove with great reviews!!

    And legs!

I was not so wild about pedestal stoves at first either. I really wanted one with legs where it was open under the stove. However, after awhile I decided the pedestal look was not so bad. She may change her mind as well; it is our prerogative after all :D

That would go for The Madison as well, both are large stoves; I would have to look to see how the dimensions of The Madison 02 compares with the 30-NC.

Not much info on the madison yet. Tons of info on the 30. (reviews, testimonials, etc)

    That's what I'm talking about.

The Madison: width is 27 3/8; height is 35 3/4 (I think The Madison sits higher because the pedestal is higher but would have to check the 30-NC); depth is 23 3/4 (note: that does not include the thingy that sits out below the door, that is from door to rear); the pedestal base is 12 1/2.

I am just posting so the OP can have as much info as needed. I am not pushing one stove over the other.

I have already posted the firebox dimensions.

Both are made by the same company and they appear to have similar construction. The Madison does have the auto set-back thingy but other than that I would think the two stoves are going to perform similarly. Why would they not?

The 30-NC does not have the side shields that The Madison has; there are slots in the front of the shield for the air to blow through.

Oh, the width mentioned includes the side shields, I would have to go out and measure them to let you know how much they add.

That is what I am guessing as well. Though the Madison may have an advantage, as it is the newer model, and why would they "downgrade?" Or maybe the setback and looks are the only changes? Time will tell.

My wife wants the pedestal on the 30, though we have a leg option. I just go with the flow.
