    I have a few each for the 18" & 20" bars for the 445.
    2/28" bar/576
    2/24" bar/576
Got an inexpensive bench grinder from Mrs. wife Claus for Christmas, but she didn't look into what grinding wheels would be needed, and funny thing is the ChinaLand grinder came with an 1/8" (don't have a mic) thick wheel???!!!:hair:
    Must get 3/16" & 7/32" wheels......

I've got piles of chains for each saw. Stumping for paying customers is almost always when they get damaged or dull. I swap it out, and keep cutting, or grab the back up saw.
Sharpening can wait until I have a cold beer in my hand :)

I've got a bench grinder that I've tried several times to get perfect. It seems I simply can't get it right.

I will be getting a Stihl 2 in 1 and see if that's got a better learning curve.

I seem to always have atleast 2 chains per bar because of my lack of skill with the my grinder. It's only off a little, but a little might as well be a mile. Seems when I try to tweak it a little I make matters worse.

When I bought my first saw I had intended it to be my only saw, so I have 3 loops for an 18" bar. But soon after I put a 13" bar on the Husky and have no intentions on ever going back to the 18". I only have one loop for the 13" bar, and then on my Makita I have one loop for the 20" bar and one for the 28" bar. I really would prefer to have a spare chain for the Husky and another spare for the 20" bar on the Makita since I use both of them the most. I rarely ever need the 28" bar, I think that chain will last me for a LONG time.

So when your chain gets dull what do you do ?? I am assuming you take it someplace to get it sharpened.

Pretty common for folks to just replace a sub-$20 chain once in a blue moon rather than take the time to sharpen it. Run it until it just will not cut anymore and then replace. Not real economical for anyone who cuts more than a stick or two from time to time but it's a very common practice.

    2-16" for the Earthquake

2-14"(I think :emb:) for the Echo CS 361P

3-20" for the Echo CS 680

3 - my dealer sells chains "buy two, get one free." At least until I bought my first role of chain this year. Now, ????

Not exactly sure. A couple new ones, a couple real good ones that cut the last load of logs and have been touched up a couple times and some more that are worn down but kept around for scrounging deadfalls in the bush and carrying on the winter trails to clear away any deadfalls on the trails and cut wood for fires while ice fishing.

Three saws, at least 4 chains for each. Admittedly, the worst ones are for grinding rocks or carving my pot roast (same thing).

Dennis, I have tried sharpening chains and I am just bad at it! OK it probably takes time and patience. I will learn someday! but right now I got a old retired guy that grinds them sharp for me for 4 dollars a loop and makes me new one at 15 dollars a chain.. he's got a roll of thousands of feet he picked up from somewhere... he likes to do it and I drop him off boxes of kindling... and a 50 dollar bill we have a beer together

so I got 5 loops each in 16 18 and 20. it's Oregon brand semi skip... I need to buy some more. He already said when he retires for good I get his grinder and roll of chain... When one goes dull I just swap it out... stop by Jon place with a 6 pack we chat he sharpens and I bring a milk crate of kiln dried hard woods inside.... oh he said that 24 to 28 inch chains would be 5 bucks.

I am not proficient at sharpening chains either. I will usually keep an old chain around though. I use it for the landscaping chain....you know, when you cut the stump as close to the ground as you can? And usually end up getting down and dirty by about 1/2" or so??

WWW has one saw, one bar, and 2 extra chains. For sharpening he used to use a hand tool, now uses a dremel. Though he has not cut wood in couple years now. Not sure but I think I recall him holding the chain in the bench vice?
