Well, guess what went out on the old girl...... The lift pump. And once that is replaced the mechanic can check the injection pump.
That stinks! You might want to think about putting a better after market one in (lift pump). At the very least have him put a fuel pressure gauge in, so you can keep an eye on it.
He is giving me a quote today on doing the injectors and the injector pump. The mechanic is great and generally does less work to save me money instead of tacking on other things. He told me she is running fine but the injector pump and injectors COULD use replacing - they are 100,000 miles or so over their intended life. He said there is a small timing issue with the injection pump. I am having a hard time deciding if I will have him put in the injectors and pumps.
Is this a daily driver? Would you be OK if the pump goes out and leaves you? Is there a chance these injectors can catastrophicly fail and damage the motor? What if they wash out the cylinder if on fails? Weigh all this stuff and decide if the price is worth doing it to have a reliable truck for another decade.
NOT the daily driver. Just my wood-getter, hauling, camping truck. IF the injection pump/injectors cause it to last another ten years.... Great!!!! I hope it does - I can not afford another truck. But, the body might be gone by that time
Did not need an injection pump. It was the MAP sensor and lift pump. She is running and ready for another load!
Thats awesome the injector pump is ok! Please just make sure you put a fuel pressure gauge on it if it's in the budget.
Nop its a little guy 4.8 gets good miliage and has plenty of power for me... I bought it with 159000 miles and fixed everything including the body on it. The truck runs like it just came off the factory floor now!
Murdered out rims and tire shine on the wood hauler!! I actually ran mine through a car wash for the first time ever and put some tire shine on the tires
4.8 are good too! Those ls motors are just awesome. That's what's going in my chevelle when I decide to put it back on the road.
I was dropping some wood off at a customer. He said he had a few dump trailers and he wanted to sell this one. It's a 6x10 10K lb trailer with a payload of 7600# 5 years old in pretty good shape. Needed to be rewired but it works great now. Dumped that load in the picture pretty quick with no struggle at all. I can use it to transport my skid steer as well. Got it for $2K.
