Thank You. Wood getting is probably their main usage, but they also serve as fire roads and make it easier to get tools and stuff around the property for the forestry practices. Sometimes they are just used for an RTV or tractor ride. It's fairly rough terrain and would be miserable to do anything without them.
Aw man, you have all the cool toys and the land to play them. You are living pretty much what would have been my "if I won Powerball" dream. No fancy cars and cruises around the world, just some woods to play in with a tractor, and maybe a backhoe. And OK a dozer too. Thanks, great pics!!
Well, I'll never be a rich man in terms of money, but I am very fortunate to have the land and toys to "work" it. I am 3rd generation to have my name on the deed and the first generation to undertake making improvements as far as silviculture goes. I never take it for granted and am proud to call myself a land own...land steward! I would love to have my own dozer...maybe an older JD 450 or TD7. That critter in the picture was a rental and sadly they don't have it in their fleet anymore.
you never really own land, you are always the caretaker. looks like you have it going on there, doing your family history proud. good job!
Here I am the first generation on my land and I would love to have grandkids that feel as you do. Frankly I doubt they are all that interested. I suspect that whoever gets it from me will likely sell it to a developer.
I will do my best as long as I am able. Considering a trust if no one in my family steps up to carry the torch. Someone has to get it started! I don't think the ground I'm on will ever have to worry about being subdivided. 4 big hills and 4 deep valleys. I have yet to decide whether I will put it into a land trust or not yet. You do know there are options to keep it forested right?
Got out for a few hours today. Brought in a red elm that was across the creek and found a little stick of locust also. So nice to be out with the saw and tractor!
Crap I am sorry Dennis I forgot to tell ya AC had a bit of work come up so we didn't come over to go cutting...
