Woke up to no power this morning. Wind howling like nobodies business, snow blowing so bad you couldn't see anything. Linda called the power company and I went down stairs to rekindle the wood stove. I no sooner had a fire going and all the smoke alarms started going off. Total freak out moment to say the least. Running around the house checking for smoke. None to be found. Well, all our alarms are hard wired into the power and have battery back ups in them. Turns out that 1 of them decided it would be a good time to let us know that the battery was dead which causes all of them to go off for some reason. Find the culprit and all is well except for my heart rate at the time. Couple hours later I see a power co. truck down the road. Looked like they was fixing a downed line from the wind. Them guys are something else being out in this crap I'll tell you what. If you ever loss power in a storm I hope you remember to say a prayer for the folks who have to go out and fix it for you. I know I did this morning.
Ours blinked off and right back on last night. Messed with the motion lights outside. I'm glad you found the culprit. I appreciate the folks who keep the power on here. We lose power a few times every year, and they're usually out here within 1/2 hour or so. Well, except for that one a couple years ago where we didn't have power for 4 days in the middle of winter. Wood stove to the rescue.
I worry about it freezing but luckily I am hooked into a rural water supply for our main source of water. I don't like having to pay for water but the old well isn't all that great any more.
True that butcher! As I understand it, the power workers do not have the opportunity to refuse to go out also. Another thing around here, water and sewer lines have a tendency to freeze under the most sever conditions. Then you have those poor dogs working in -40 temps in a cold wet frozen hole trying to repair a line? Keep them in mind also!
I hear you there Dave. I have tried to make my life so as to not need electricity if need be and have been with out for days. Now, that going without an indoor latrine is a whole nuther story. There really is only 2 things in life I strive for. 1 is a dry place to sleep and the other is a warm place to chit. The rest will fall into place iffn you play your cards right.
Yea we are one of those essential personnel people that when they shut the roads down we can still be on them.
