Had a little set-back last night with Sandy. Schedule going outside had been the same all week... but I guess her reaction to it wasn't. I woke up at 1:30 to her thrashing in her crate (never made a peep before) and waited for 10 minutes to see if she'd just calm down. She didn't and there was good reason. She'd dumped in there and chased it with a dose of the runs... and then puked... now she was all jigged up with crap on her feet. I tried to calm her down and just picked her up, chit n all. Got her outside and she blew out again. Pretty obvious she just had to go before, couldn't hold it, got all wound up, and then reeeelly wanted outa the crate. An hour later, I had everything cleaned up, and her back on a clean bed in the crate. She went right to sleep. Whew... what a dream...

I think she's still a little "off" this morning. She had been showing us "signals" when she needed to go out before... this morning she got up, jumped down and peed right in front of us. Didn't scold her, just picked her up and set her outside for a bit. Hoping she gets back to where she's been all week, as things go along today.

Stinny, probably just her body trying to get used to this new environment.. Your doing a great thing here.. I am sure you are feeding her better higher quality food and as her nerves and stress decreases and her activity increases just her body trying to adjust.

Yup, I agree. She and Giz walked all around the garage last night about 2 hours before bed. It was a new thing for her. Looks as tho it stressed her out more than it looked. Giz was so good with her... but Sandy was prolly a little skiddish, tho she wagged her tail like crazy and looked playful the whole time. Was just too much, too soon I guess...

    Just a few minutes ago...

She'll be ok..... the runs is a whole different situation. Maple had the runs sometime last week, and Saucy went to sniff her butt, a split second later you can guess who got it in the face.....yup, Saucy. Right to the tub he went. Hasn't sniffed her butt since. :bug:

It will take a long time to unscrew all her bad experiences. Even after, any event can trip her. I swear it is doggy PTSD. I know first hand what that chit is. She has to feel she belongs, is part of the family and has ownership, not just a visitor. It will take a while. She may never be whole, but she will be much happier than she was. I used to pick up my little rescue dog and hold her snugly against me. This usually resulted in her calming right down. When ever I sat in my recliner she would jump into my lap and snuggle between me and the side of the chair. I think that was good for the both of us.

Sandy did fine all last night, though as she's getting more confident, she's also getting more vocal (whining and crying) in the crate when she wants out. We took Giz to a vet appt this morning. Those two did fine on the way there too. When they go face to face, Sandy will show teeth first, butt to butt... I think they'd sit there all day. All good. Sunny today so we'll get em both out for a good romp together.

I agree....... and their are lots of folks who have their pets dew claws removed, and in some instances that is fine. But for those that are outdoors a lot with their dogs or near water, it would be worth condidering not having them removed. As shown in the video, retrievers, especially chesapeakes, tend to break the ice using their chests, but not sure that is something id be interested in practicing.

I don't like to alter the natural body parts of any dog. Leaving due claws on is just one of those. Cropping ears and tails is another thing that is often done is loosing popularity. I hated having my big male lab neutered but caved into having it done when he started marking inside. Shame, he got big and more lazy after that. My female lab didn't get so big and remains very active after her neutering.
