When I am sawing wood, I'll go through that in a. Our of weekends. The generator is a 2000 watt Honda-doesn't use much has. The pressure washer is used for vehicle washing, a few minutes at a time. The push mower isn't used much since I have a ZTR mower, and the ATV isn't used of since I have my RTV.

Lawn mower gas and diesel fuel- ya, I burn a lot of that!

Sorry not to be able to support you but I buy gas at my local retailer and add in a bit of oil to make a 50:1 mix in a gallon can. It costs me about $3.50 a gallon to mix and I have no trouble using it as much as 3 months later. Why in the world would I spend big dollars per quart for basically the same stuff? I am sure some of you have stories but that has been my experience.

Thats what I do. As long as its E free I would not worry as much.

But with E sometimes you dont know till its too late. Burning up a saw with poor water logged fuel

Sorry I am replying to an old post, but I was doing some reading and came across this post that applies. My manual for my Craftsman says that I should mix a 40:1 ratio, but I have seen many people post about 50:1. Is that saw specific, or is 50:1 better?

I have a few places for e free around me. Also, Bailey's had a sale in the past that you bought a bar/ chain combo and they gave you 4 qts of the VP premix. I got a 24" b/c then and I use the VP at the end of the season to put the saws away with it in the tanks still have 2- 2 1/2 qts.

40:1 will be better in that Craftsman/Poulan. 50:1 is getting light on lube. And I suspect many new saws touting 50:1 is more of a satisfy EPA than best engine lube.

I had seen some conflicting views on different websites, so I think that I will just stick with the manual's guidance. Worse case scenario, it is a little richer mix, which I don't think will hurt. Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to try some Saber, give that a day in court.

The difference in 40 and 50 is not much. Any quality oil at 50 is probably fine. Personally id run 40 most of the chinese stuff till very recent said 40 and honestly 50:1 I think is just EPA.

That said I run 32:1 in everything

If your saw says to run 40:1 I would do that. The manual was based on the oils available at the time and the manufacturer's best estimate of minimal lubrication requirements for their engine. Frankly I will always err on the side of better lubrication if I am not sure.

And to further explain what were trying to say...anything that even says it needs 50:1 will run fine on 40:1 you won't notice a difference in anything.

It looks like most of the 2 cycle oil out there comes in containers designed to mix with one gallon to make either a 40:1 or 50:1. Saves me from having to do some math. I want to try out a few different brands and see what runs the best in my Craftsman.

As far as 50:1 and 40:1 you 99% probably won't tell a difference...period. the difference will be on the inside with your cylinder walls piston skirt and crank and bearings having more oil on them. As far as brands of oil. Smell will probably be the only think you can tell a difference with in that saw. Its just not high enough performance to tell. It will eat anything.

Any 50:1 bottle can be mixed at 32 or 40:1 just depends on how much gas you put with it??? Say you buy a one gallon mix bottle that says mix with 1 gallon of gas to get 50:1. Well just put 80% of a gallon or .80 gallons of gas in the can with the same oil bottle and now you have 40:1 mix.

I go through too much fuel (15+ gallons in a year) to buy the premixed stuff in quart cans.My Mac 125C has a 51oz tank, the 2 big Husky's 33 oz each & several of the other big Mac's & Homie's are 40oz plus, even for occasional cutting with them you go through fuel quite fast.

Milling, noodling or even just cutting bigger ones for firewood its not unusual for me to use a gallon or 2 on a busy day.

Heck I use modern saws in the 70-80cc size and I can easily use a gallon on a partial day of cutting.

Milling can use a half gallon a cut. Premix is great storage fuel. By a can or two when you think you won't use them for a couple months. Drain them and fill them back with canned fuel and start and run them for a minute to get the good fuel through the carb.

I'm not too sure (it's ice raining and my oil and gas can is out in the shed), but in Canada, we sell the Husqvarna oil at 100ml a bottle. Then mix in 5 litres for 50:1, or 4 litres for 40:1. Even a dummy like me can sort of figure it out.

Gotta love the metric system! Growing up in the U.S., I never had an appreciation for the metric system until I took chemistry.

Yep we make everything hard. Its scary how many americans dont understand fractions and if you told them 20 and 5/8"s they dont know thats just over a half inch over 20". Most here obviously know. Many dont. They have to have a tape measure in front of them.

Even less here know anything about the metric system other than units and fewer can come close to conversions without google. I am not the best but can move grams to ounces and vice versa with a calculator and turn CM to inches as well. I do it all the time with stuff.

I wish USA would go all metric in tools. My brain knows 14mm is bigger than 12mm a whole lot quicker than 13/16 is bigger than 3/4.
