Thanks for the updated info; at least I feel better now. I still think I should have been able to lock the 1' section under the tee; I tried putting a band on but it has a lip on the support plate that prevents it. I can see the whole 1 foot section twisting off when removing the cap to clean the chimney.
Let me ask this question; should I caulk around the area where the chimney sits on the support plate? It appears to me that there could be air leakage there.
PS Kimberly , dear husband asked me to get "roof guys" asap. They held the pipe in place. LOL, "guys"? Sure enough, it was dex that translated it for me into brackets
Guy can refer to people such as "Hey you guys" Guy can also refer to an effigy of Guy Fawkes, the man that tried to blow up parliament and for which we have a celebration each November. Guy can also refer to a brace to help stablise an object, such as a roof guy to brace a Class A stainless steel chimney.
FYI, you don't have to put the 1' piece on. You can put the cleanout cover right on the bottom of the tee. They didn't used to call for that piece in there...I think they recently started putting those on for people that don't burn properly and/or don't keep their chimney clean. It gives the creosote flakes somewhere to pile up without blocking the flue. Kinda like a drip leg on a gas line
Yes, that is why I added it, I figured it was needed to catch debris that would fall down the chimney and such.
Progress on the chimney install. Now to climb the roof and that is the part that is going to be scary since I have to work near the edge. I think I am going to need to bend the eavestrough to clear the chimney. I can not move the support plate out because I am just at the 3 inch inside as required by the manufacturer. I also was off a bit on the measurement for the bracket you see at the top. According to my level, I am more or less plumb from the wall out so bending the eavestrough is going to be necessary. Oh well, not that big of a deal.
That's lookin' real good Kimberly! Get up on that roof, so you can have fire!!! Just be careful. Eavestrough? Nothing a big hammer won't make gooder.
