Today, working out in the official wood processing, seasoning & storage area, I realized that this season's wood was mostly still there and it's Feb! The warmer weather has been gentle on my stacks, duh (in a good way). I know I have 2 months left that usually take a bunch of btu's out of the stack that is slated for this years use, but right now if things continue at this pace, I'll have used only half of a normal "heating season". Ye Haw!! I did start off (100% wood heat) a full month later than normal, and burn in a gassification boiler with in floor radiant heat. That's not the type of heat that you just have a little fire to take the chill out. No wood stove, so the cheap oil got used a little more.
Well, realizing the time of year it is, we will have plenty of wood left over by spring. That is good and we've enjoyed this warmer than normal winter. Today we hit 40 and it is very welcome! Got rid of lots of snow and some of the ice. A bit of rain on the way and that may help get rid of more ice.
Which will then freeze and become our normal January/Feb. skating yard. I think we have a little more snow than you down there, Dennis. Looking forward to the thaw, but also, not looking forward to the thaw. We're up for some real cold starting next week, but the first of March is supposed to be around 40 or so for many days. It's interesting to see so many discovering they have a lot more than normal wood left. I'm keeping a close eye on mine and expect to have somewhere around 1 1/3 cords left. Nice.
Dave, that is very typical for you to have more snow than us as you are quite a ways north. Remember, we used to live straight west of where you are so we are very knowledgeable about winters there.
Yeah but because the frost is only a couple of feet deep versus 8 plus of last year mud season will not be as much of a nightmare. But I bet you snowmobile will be dirt cheap in april...
Yeah I'm on pace to use about half of what I used this year. Maybe less. We'll see what kind of months February and March are. We're supposed to get into the 60s next week so I probably won't be burning heavily for awhile.
Yep, I remember. I wouldn't mind if the warmer temps showed up as long as they stayed until all the snow and ice was gone. It is what it is, but that would be nice. CbVT,....I hope you're right.
