As promised. Probably buck up a cord of some fairly green pinion pine tomorrow. Hopefully with some footage. 20160129_161959.jpg 20160129_162023.jpg

How long have u had yours? Any mods? How happy are you with the purchase?

It came with the 24 and I know it will pull it in the relatively soft wood we have here. But probably mostly run a 20 full comp.

I really like it as well.

Use to do it alot with my dad growing up but didn't do any once I went off to college. 20+ years later...poof, let's go cut some wood and make a little extra money.

My dad had a John Deere 35cc saw with a thumb oiler on it. He had a 16" bar on it and it did great in the green pinion. How far things have come!

My 555 wears a 20", 3/8 pitch, full chisel chain and is exciting to use. I have been using it on nothing but hard woods and never feel like I want more saw.

Welcome to the forum. I have been to Elko and thought it was a great area there. You keep cutting that wood up and might end up with a wood stove, I know it can get pretty cold there in Elko.

I believe there is someone here who burns a lot of pinion pine from New Mexico and says it makes great firewood. Like any wood though it just has to be seasoned.

Can't cut it green here unless it is private land. Mostly have to rely on wildfires and then harvest after a couple of years standing.

Dirty business as u can imagine but that wood gets real tight dieing so quickly. Becomes quite hard.
