Hey Wood Duck, its a red oak. It was 30+". A lot of good wood for sure. The top had died out of it so that's why I cut it down.
Welcome! Looks like you'll fit in great here. You've got some nice "toys" there. I'm very jealous of the tractor and mill.
Welcome Spencer! Thanks for sharing the pics and video. I agree looks like a lot of good wood in a red oak that big!

Welcome to da hood brother, plane down one of them boards into a nice smooth seat by the fire and enjoy.
Hey Erik, I am just south of Bloomington. I don't think I have any pics of my woodpile but I will be cutting some more this weekend and try to snap some. I started firewooding with my dad when I was old enough to stack a split and its been in my blood since. So almost 40 yrs now. Heres a photo from a couple years ago running my splitter on some red oak. THanks everybody for the warm welcome!
Hey fanatical1, the slabs are going to be used for paneling inside my cabin, on the ceiling . Here is a photo of the sycamore I quartersawed and put up on the walls.
Awesome! Quarter sawn sycamore has some fantastic looking character to it! For a somewhat non desirable tree, it just looks great quartersawn. Found this pic on the net of quartersawn sycamore. Just to show how cool this stuff looks. We're going to need to see and hear more about this cabin.... Lots of wood Fanatics on this site.....
I'm not jealous... not even a little bit... Ok, maybe a little bit. Darn. Now my beer tastes like salt water.
Wow, just wow. The trees, the mill, the cabin, the dog ... Wow. And good to see you wearing the chaps, we like that around here.
