Shepherds are herding dogs so usually do well with other pets (even birds), although you never know so need to stay alert until you know how each particular dog engages with them.

Huskies however, those you really can't trust around birds (except guinea hens - they can defend themselves quite nicely and will run circles around even greyhounds), and I'm guessing Huskies would be the same around rabbits.

And, sometimes dogs (of any breed) will act a lot differently with other species in the house, as opposed to outside. I've had dogs that totally ignored cats in the house, or were downright friendly. But outside, even in an enclosed pen, they gave a wicked chase. But, if a cat refused to run as the dog barreled towards it, the dog would be totally baffled and they didn't know what to do besides run right past.

The one trying to get the beer is Roxie and the other one is Yankee. They are American Bulldogs. Oh Roxie loves beer! However Yankee hates it. I love them

Day 5 and we have lift off... Sandy figured out that all my high 5s and banana man dances after she peed outside all 4 days must mean sumthin... had her first dump outside the morning. For all we know, first time in her 10 years. Shaking badly from the cold... but she gud r dun...

The vet needed to get a birthdate down on her paperwork as no one knows exactly what it is. My honey said that's easy... she'll be 10 on Valentines Day...

It was time to get her together with Gizzy more. We did some "hiking" after... all around the house, garage and basement with Giz on her 6. Giz wants to play too rough, but only got "scolded" by Sandy once. I just let them sort it out. Giz backed off and just walked around with her after. Good sign. I'm watching Giz closely though around the food. She's done well but if the little one really started something with her... it wouldn't be good.

Now that her confidence is gaining, Sandy is starting to move with curiosity. Lotta fun to watch.

Great news Stinny, rescue dogs are hard because you don't know what they are afraid of or what has happened in the past. Lady definitely has separation anxiety. They are more work but worth it. Just like kids.. Lady is wife's dog and when she comes home cannot control her self well her claws leave bruises but we are working on gentle. good with rabbit but not so much with us. Took her to a lake this summer, don't think she knew what it was, she put both front paws on wife's upper arms and dragged her back to shallow water.. looked like a man had grabbed her the next day.. I even said to wife who grabbed you? The dog!

I just heard on the news here at lunch that a private animal shelter was raided. It was down in north Carolina, all types of animals, terrible conditions, open wounds etc. Is this the place she came from Stinny?

This kind of chit really pizzes me off!

No it's not WS. Couldn't be... Sandy was at the shelter since December sometime. Now that we've been introduced to their world a tiny bit, I think the reality of how many chithole hoarder homes with puppy mills (to make $$ on) has really sunk in. It's insane how many pets are left abandoned or just discarded like trash... :headbang:

We just had a "smilin' fest" here with lots of perty white teeth... over a chew bone. Sandy don't take no chit. Giz finally backed away... but that was the first time Giz had smiled back at her... ;) 99% of the time they ignore each other... sorta.

Well guys in a fair world the people running these things would be placed in same dimensional cage the dogs were in, get fined big money and loose rights to own animals for life... Attitude like this why I would make a bad judge. I am against government oversight in general and everything needs to be in proportion. no problems with killing or trapping but cruelty and abuse is stupid and wrong. in short its

Our little Rosy is definitely a beagle mix. She loves chasin' varmints, even into snow banks.:D

Unbelievable CBV... we just had some moron drop off a yellow lab at the Androscoggin Animal Shelter (local news) after hours, open the door, let him out (looked happy and healthy, tail wagging) and drove off. They looked for the lab for 3 days and finally found him... he'd been killed by a car driving by. The whole drop off was on video and the law is now after him. From the video, I bet someone knows him and the dog. The shelter said there were people inside and they would have taken the dog in... always. Just freakin' unreal.... :headbang::headbang::headbang:

Mr. Smokey (his ashes) made it home to his final resting place on our mantel tonight. He joined the other 10 from the last 8 yrs. We are blessed for all the joy that each and every one of them brought to our family. Gone but never forgotten.

I love the wood stove in the background. Dogs love wood stoves as much as people I think.

This Popoki the cat. As you can see, he's healed up nicely from his losing effort at kitty fight club a while back. He loves to lay on this chair because the stove is just to the right of the picture, warming his belly... That's about as happy as a cat can be.

Mike, great tribute to your beloved friend. I lost my Oggie 2 years ago and my little memorial still sets on my desk. I miss her everyday. I love my Buddy but will never stop missing Oggie. God willing, I will see her at the Rainbow bridge in Heaven when I die. And I believe I will! God bless you and give you peace. image.jpg H
