Sandy got the 100% stamp of approval today and I think the vet really likes her too... ;) This lil one is coming around and showing more spunk already. More alert and curious. Yesterday was a disaster walking with a leash... no way. Today, she walked out to the mailbox and back leading the way... :dex: She's peed outside 3 times so far. We may just get there with the house training. Focusing now on keeping her and Giz on good terms while they get to know... and teaching her to come to us. It has been a good day with "the girls"... :D

Awesome! Very happy for Sandy and your family. Both are definitely better for it. Does she have any teeth? Most of our older and/or mill dogs have at best a couple, most none at all.

Hi Mike. You were part of our inspiration to try working with a rescue pup... btw. She has lost some teeth but she can still chew small dry food and biscuits. She just started up with some soft food at around 1 today and finally drank a lot of water when we got back from the vets. Let the pee and poo fly... :dex::D

Sounds like she's warming up real nicely. She's going to be a great addition to the family!

Went for a nice snow shoe this evening in the woods. Maple experienced her first slide down a hill adventure. No pics of that, but I was laughing with excitement. She looked like a bear cub playing.

    Beautiful dog!!!
FWIW, most dogs do amazingly well with few/no teeth. At worst, you can always buy a cheap coffee/spice grinder and grind up hard kibble and/or soft foods. Mostly, they just need to get it small enough bits to swallow. They let their guts take care of it from there. Don't hesitate to PM me if you run into any issues with a senior/adopted dog. If nothing else, we have alot of experience.

I try and exercise Maple daily. Usually a mile woods walk, even though it's dark. The snow has kept us out of the woods except the snow shoe last night, and I wasn't up for trudging through the snow tonight. Plan B.......laser pointer on the snow. Wow, she loved it. She was blowing through the snow, up and down the piles, through the drifts even diving into the snow head first. We did this for close to a half hour, and she's pooped. I hope the snow stays so I can get a video for everyone, what a hoot!

My honey has been having a ball with this little one (texted you the pic) Yep... that's 2nd bed so it's a little easier to settle her down where she eats and also in the crate at night. Giz has done much better than I thought she would. Earlier today, they were almost bumping up against each other sleeping. No more snarling now either from Sandy... don't think she's as afraid of Giz now. Still gonna keep one eyeball on her for a while. Being extra careful with feeding.

I admire your commitment to Maple's well being, it pays off as I'm sure you know. A regular day for myself and the hounds is 4-5 miles in the woods, 1 in the morning and evening, and 2-3 in the afternoon after work. Looking forward to a video.

Ill try.....this snow has been really melting. I think we've lost 12+ inches already. But, with the melt, it won't be long until I'll be taking the grizzly back through for a night ride/run for maple.

it's been a while since I posted in the pets.. I have read and kept many of you in prayers.. our rescue Shepard lady continues to learn and do well 20160127_173509.jpg

but she is stubborn.. I mean Sheppard so wife went out and got her a job to watch so everyone meet Thumper 20160127_173132.jpg

3 pound Holland lop Sable colored.. As I have allergies to cats and not rabbits plus therapist said good for daughter and the dog!

Soon you think we watch too much Disney movies referring to pet names..

I'd hate to see what my dog would do to a rabbit in the house. Gotta love a good guard dog!

As kids in college, we had 2 bunnies and 2 dogs in an old small mobile home. The bunnies took a liking to our shepard, when let out of the cage they would do circle 8's around her legs while she looked down and watched with care not to step on them. Very cute.
