Well we got our electric bill today and man was i surprised. Last year at this time it was 268.56$ :headbang: This year it is 150.62$ :dex: We were excited with this. We are trying to heat full time with wood. Both thermostats set at 67 and we try to keep the house between 73-77. To my knowledge, the heat pump has came on 2 times at night since we started burning and honestly thats because i slept through the night and didn't get up to reload. Plus last night it was 8 degrees. We are very happy with our stove:D

Yep. I actually have 2 heat pumps. One upstairs and one downstairs. Both were replaced in June of 2015 because they had reached the end of their life. So i think they will be more efficient but i still dont want either of them to come on.

I have a forced air electric furnace. I ran it for one month when I first bought and moved into this place. My electric bill was $400+ I got my wood stove and chimney out of storage and installed it. I've been heating this home for 5 years now with wood only. My electric bills are under $100 now. Of course, when I go to work I switch everything (except the refrigerator) off in the breaker box too. That helped some too. :)

I don't get up to reload, it just isn't worth it. I did the first year, but not since. The stove is there to serve me, not for me to serve it.

So my house goes a little colder in the night. When I get heat pumps (someday), I will likely set them to 65, and they won't come on much.

Our stove goes out at night often. No biggie to us since we are warm under the bed covers, WWW runs it hot in the morning:)

Great news! Some serious savings potential over time. Being newer to wood burning and just installing everything, I figure it's going to take me about six seasons to break even on my wood heating investment.

Immediate warm dry heat has value too :) , factor that in to you initial costs.

You can afford to keep it an extra couple degrees warmer too:yes:

I have gotten good at cold starts on the old Allnighter. In 10-15 minutes I can have serious heat going, so I light the fire while the Mrs makes the coffee.:handshake:

NO Doubt!! WWW took the baby back to northern cal to see his family a year ago thanksgiving. He froze his behind, and took liberties turning up the thermostats without asking. Does not make sense to me, either insulate the house better or buy a wood or pellet stove instead of several decades of saving a few bucks per month on suburban heating. Sure there are burn ban days, but save all the expensive nat gas or electric heat while burning instead of being cold all winter. :headbang:

I'm reading from your script; been operating like you for many years. Happily for me, the new Fireview has eliminated both the need to get up to reload and the colder night time temps.
