I wasn't gonna do a thread on this...but why not..took a bunch of pics to jog my memory ....so might as well share !
So this is my cousins 262xp. He was given it as a gift..brand new..long time ago. . He cleared his property..and cut a crap ton of firewood with it over the years. So just this past fall....his gas cans got mixed up...and this old girl got the straight gas treatment :( He said he ran 2 tanks through it before he realized it. So.....I told him no problem...I can help ! So....tore it down...Luckily...no bottom end damage....but it transfered some of the piston onto the cylinder :( So after alot of cleaning.... Alot of emery cloth...scotch bright...and Old040's help....I got the old cylinder in decent shape. Only some small stuff on the exhaust side that I couldn't get as good as I wanted...so fingers crossed ! Fast forward past all the cleaning and disasembly....to today. Assembly time ! New Meteor piston assembly....even sprung for this new handy dandy ring compressor kit ! I highly recommend...it worked awesome !

Wow are those parts clean ..

150 PSI? Did you use a base gasket?

Guess what.....fired up in about 8 pulls !
Running good so far ! Let it idle about 5 minutes or so..blipped the throttle a tad...seems good ! But that's it for tonight. Hope compression goes up in a few tanks ! I'm a happy camper !

    Replaced ....
    Piston/rings
    Fuel line and filter
The complete gas tank vent assembly
    Gas cap
    Spark plug

    Still need..
    New sprocket
    Recoil pull rope.

Also used high temp woodstove paint to freshen up the muffler !

Maybe some action shots tommorow ?!?!

    Fun project..now on to the 350 !!! IMG_20160121_185230129.jpg IMG_20160121_185237426.jpg

Too clean lol ! Almost hated to use that shiny piston !!! I did use a base gasket...I was told that the 262xp has to have one..unless machine work is done to the cylinder . But I never checked squish...cuz I don't know how ....but hope to soon !

    Dude, that's weak.

.... especially since Mark was helping you ...

You can take material off the bottom of the cyl with sandpaper and a piece of glass. I got my first one down to .020/.020/.020/.021 very easily.

I think he was keeping it simple stupid for my first build lol !! I'd rather try new stuff on my own saws ! I'm hoping for 150 to 160 after break in ..... that will make me happy ! That's a good trick though ...I'm curious to learn more about it.
    Baby Steps lo! !

If ya do enough digging on these forums, you will find out how to test squish using solder and grease.

I dropped the base gasket and sanded the cyl on my first 262 and got 175PSI before it ever ran. Is much stronger now.

I felt the same on the comp reading, by the time fuzz got to that point I was already lay'n low for the evening, pretty sure Fuzz didn't check the squish, so we'll both have to get together and see what's up with the compression....may also be a bad decomp valve
