Last year the snow lasted untill April in the yard, of course it melted some. But it freezes at night is hard pack. Good logging then.

I don't know about Eric but here it can snow like mad and then the sun comes out and it start melting away in no time. However, they drive on the roads and pack it into a sheet of hard ice that never leaves. One year they had motorgraders out trying to break up the hard pack snow sheets on the roads. It depends on the conditions; this time it has been below freezing for days daytime and that means everything sticks. Last year the snow stayed longer because it stayed so cold during the days so actually had snow on the ground for weeks.

Yeah, I'm sure. That apparently happened in this area years ago.... I've been here just shy of 20 years, never seen it last, like I grew up with. Compared to winter vacations at our Catskills cabin, not even close!

Yes, last year's Polar Vortex did make things seem a bit more like I'm used to.
    Good point, K.

This is what I deal with, and I love it, but it lasts for many months. I'm just saying. DSCN0435.JPG

Yes, one reason I like it here, it can snow and be pretty but not be too much of a hassle. I wish people would not make such a mess on the roads; if they would stay off, then the scrappers could clear the roads without issues. I had a friend in Albany, NY that use to get sick of the snow because it stayed and eventually in the city becomes nasty grey dirty stuff from the pollution.

Like a blast from the past. If we get any fraction of that this weekend, my overly excited wife(about the snow) will be doing the shoveling- still can't manage more than 10-15 lbs lifting since the surgery..... Screwed up and and brought a HUGE load of farwood in the other night, tho- hurts.:headbang::doh:

Since it has been so cold here, we are in for a big mess driving wise. I work at home so I will try to hunker down and hope the power does not go out.

Trying. Hate to always call on my wife to do something as simple as bring in firewood. Need to set the "Pride" down, I guess.
    I know, I know.
    I really am trying....

Up here in NH and Maine, the boys are out hitting it with state and town plows, they have the big equiptment and lots of it to keep the roads open, they do a great job. Everybody and his brother has a plow on their pickup to make cash. So travel is never a problem, 4X4 is a must, at least for me, I'd drive to Vermont in a blizzard for a quart of milk. I love driving in the snow

thewoodlands, I like Bernie because he uses the models as only tools along with his professional meteorological skills. He's said from day one, the storm probably won't go as far south as others have predicted. The models are changing a bit, showing the low out at sea, pushing the storm more northerly. The snow totals have increased, some locals now saying 2 ft+ possible, along with 55+mph winds. I'm wondering if the blizzard watch with be activated in our area as the model below suggests.
