So I recently purchased a 550xp. I've put about 5 thanks through it so far. Great little saw. The only thing I don't like is when limbing. As I'm pulling limbs out of my, the saw idles for say 30 seconds. When I get back on the throttle it has a bog but quickly catches itself. It's a huge annoyance. It's brand new and as far as I'm concerned, it shouldn't do that. This is my first AT saw, so it's all new to me. I went to my dealer today and a buddy of mine that works there, has a 562 and says his did the same thing until it was broke in.

Can anyone give me some knowledge on this? Is this normal and will go away once broke it?

    Thanks in advance.

Best bet would be let your dealer make it right for you . There is an adjustment ,but it requires pulling a welch plug in the carb to make an adjustment .

i dont know how long it takes for the AT to get its stuff together initially but a few more tanks should be close enough. i will say pretty much all my saws will hesitate a little after 30 seconds of idling(evil non epa approved stuff :saw:), though anything other than the normal lightning throttle response on these would feel like a bummer.

My 550XP is about 1.5 - 2 years old and I haven't noticed. I do have the habit of blipping the throttle though. That might counter act the bogging your talking about. Next time I get a chance I will pay attention and report back.

I know what adjustment screw you're talking about. I do 99% of my own saw work. What kind of adjustment is needed to that screw?

When blipping it's fine. But when it idles for several seconds, that's when I notice the bog. Almost like it's running rich and loading up. Now I do run 40:1 in all my saws. Could that be part of the problem?

Ccw about an eighth should be a good starting place .
I still think I'd get with the dealer first . Maybe reset the AT ,then do some real long cuts ( noodles ) Before going into the carb .
Edit .... Saw your above post , I run 32-1 in everything without encountering problems .

I'm assuming the welch plug needs to be put back in, correct?

Not really . It's covering an adjustment screw much like a normal H L adjustment . It's an air bleed . It has an O ring to keep it set .

I had (?) the hesitation off idle and it was bugging me. Then the saw started dying quite often after sitting for a longer idle. So I got to work, I adjusted the phantom screw twice, ended up at 1/2 turn rich (CCW) and the last day I used it it was noticeably better - no dying at all, hesitation almost non-existent. Only happened once it was fully warm and this is on a Jred 2252 = Husqvarna 545. Mine had no welch plug in front.

The Autotune carbs are a bit tricky to remove from the saw, much tighter than on a normal saw, but if I can do I am sure you can as well.

My saw is an absolute screamer (bananas do that I hear) but this hesitation thing was making me think of ditching it. I hope it is solved because it is fun to run.

The screw is the L adjustment. What oil are you running in it? Some thick bike oils don't run good in them as well.

Never heard any one complain of the bog from that oil. Just belray H1R and a few other thick oils.

I bought my 550xp new a couple-few years ago, and have never experience the bog mentioned. When my saw was still newish I was clearing some trails with a guy using a Stihl 260, where both our saws would idle for a minute or so while we walked from tree to tree, and he actually commented on how quickly my saw revs compared to his.

Sometimes when I haven't run it in a few weeks it stumbles for 30 seconds or so after first being started, but I assume that's just the autotune adjusting for the present conditions. But once that's over, it runs like a champ! The only difference after it was broken in was it ran a little stronger. Personally I'd let the dealer look into it before I started messing with things, and I'm also someone who does my own work to my stuff.
