Thanks guys. I know a lot of you would, and have done the same. I'm proud to be among you like-minded folks.

I grabbed a few splits from other half of the rack while out grabbing a some splits for the night. I checked the MC on the elm...oh baby.

 

You can give up on the rest of the people, but I think all us here would have done the same as Jon. That's what makes this group so special. Kudos to you Jon. "Ambassador of good will"

Good job fishingpol It may end up that you have an eager cutting buddy.

 

This is another moment to help his knowledge base, Jon.
Help him get a fire going with the wood from you, then start another fire with the wood you got from him.
Should pretty well seal the deal regarding the need for dry wood.

 

He definitely knows the importance of dry wood. The difference in moving a wheelbarrow full of my splits was much lighter than what he brought over.

I grabbed a few splits of his delivery that we swapped, and they actually checked in around 20% for a few beech splits and 25% on the oak. He should be in good shape for next winter. I am running those splits in the stove now, and they caught ok. A bit drier would be better.

 

If he is new to burning why not show him how to do a top down start. It is something he has probably never even heard of.

 

I'll make him a batch of homemade firestarters. I just ran the planer the other day, so I have some nice dry shavings to work with.

Thinking back, it would sure have been excellent if we'd had you as a mentor when we began this long ago. Methinks you did OK too getting locust and oak from it.

 

Yes Jon. Show him some stove top cooking technique in the cast iron and he will be even more grateful to you. Nice job.

Trading him for dry wood is sorta like my wife bring over some bakery goodies for new neighbors when they moved in. Its the FHC welcome to the neighborhood welcome package!!

 

That is awesome if everyone had neighbors like that we would all be better off.

I think he likes that Outdoor Oven too much.
