Im in the market for a new laptop. I need something small 11-15" not to worried about bells and whistles just need to be able to get on the internet use word and excel and have as long a battery life as possible. I will need a few usb ports and an HDMI is preferable. This will be used primarily for school work while Im on the road for work and then after that it will probably go unused for the most part so Id like to keep it under $350. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not familiar with Asus do they make a good product? I have an acer for my desktop and am happy with it. I was looking around best buy website at their hps, lenovos, and acers. I'll check out the Asus too I've got a little bit of time as I'm waiting to do this with my tax return I just want to start looking now and get a good idea of what I am going to get.
They make a good product, not quite as solidly built as a Toshiba or other more expensive brands, but the performance is good. I'm a contractor/handyman, my Asus goes with me on all service calls for onsite billing. I get about 3 years of service from mine, that's ok to me though. After 3 years you can buy double the computer for half the price. I consider computers disposable.
Disposable they are especially with the way technology is constantly moving and changing. My current hp laptop I've had since late 2009 and it has been around the world and through hell with me but it's time to replace it. The battery is shot the ac charging cord won't stay in half the time and it is super slow even after removing everything from it and starting over.
It's worth while to investigate consumer report to see who had the highest build quality these days, hp used to be da man. Now they are pretty far down the list on pc/laptop build quality.
I'd say the first table is pretty accurate for the Asus. Value the things that are important to you. Best & Worst Laptop Brands
I'm not surprised to see apple at the top but I can't bring myself to buy one of their laptops. I am surprised to see where dell is ranked I have personally had a lot of trouble with their products in the past and am probably jaded because of that. Lenovo is a lot lower than I thought they would be I've always heard rave reviews of their products. I'll have to keep looking around and see what I find.
I'm in the market for one too, I have a gift card to Best Buy and no clue what to get. They have this similar model Asus on sale for $299 right now...we ye think of it? Best Buy Weekly Ad
How about $176, Windows 10, Acer brand, USB and HDMI? Acer Aspire 11.6" ES1-111M-C37Q Laptop Intel Celeron N2840 Dual-Core 2.16 GHz Greg EDIT: SORRY, Windows 8, not 10!
Yea, 8 sucks. Sucks bad. And the Intel celeron is an "economy" processor, it's cheaper since the tech has been around for a while.
I have had 4 hp laptops. Everyone of them broke within two years. When I say broke, I mean broke apart. Unless you need a DVD player/recorder, I would go with a large tablet and get a bluetooth keyboard. Get a major brand. I had several bargain ones I tried from the home shopping networks. Every one was junk. I have two now, an Ipad and a Samsung Galaxy. I really prefer the Ipad, but the Galaxy has some nice features. Personally, I think Android has it over Windows.
