    A douglas fir pellet from the Pacific Northwest. they are shipped bagged by rail to Springfield, Ma

    Why would you not want a hardwood pellet vs doug fir? I dont know not a pellet guy here. But I do know HW would probably have more BTUs.

    When put into pellet form? Softwood and hardwoods are the same density (or very close. It can go one way or the other. Deoends on the mill and the dies). So now you take softwood burning characteristics vs hardwood bring characteristics.

    Softwoods burn hotter and cleaner. In a pellet stove, the same amount of fuel is delivered. So a hotter and cleaner burning pellet is better. Thus the reason softwoods are normally better (some brands are not... But most are. Depends on the fiber source, moisture content, fines, pellet size, etc).
