18 this morning, loaded up the ol' stove with some Mulberry, oak, walnut and Hedge... Not suppose to gain much today, so hopefully this will get my 12 hours down the road...
since it didn't get very cold last night i let the evening fire die out and used the englander pellet stove last night. i woke up to 65 degrees. $4 for a bag of pellets is easy and cheap heat. prolly clean both stoves today as it is going down into single digits Sunday night. gotta love it!
Sounds like we've got the same weather again, Sconnie. I sure am glad I have that "kicker" stove in the basement
My kicker is the NG furnace. Have it set at 67. If I set it lower the house temp slips too much and it takes a bunch of wood to get it back to 72 where we like it! I'm glad these temps hit on the weekends so far, other than I can't/won't go outside to cut some wood or go ice fishing, but I can do a better job of preventing the furnace from running. I depend on it during the week when it gets really cold as I go 11 hrs between the morning load and the small load after work.
The temp this morning was/is 34 degrees so the Pellet Stove will be set at a certain temp for the day.
Single digits all day. Not suppose get above 0 tomorrow. Might dip to 20 below tonight. Hope to to the water freezing trick with boiling water again this year. Loading up some elm before we head out for our family Christmas in central Iowa. Should be a lot of fun. May even get a dusting of snow!
$4 a night seems awfully expensive to me vs an arm full of wood that takes 2 mins to totally process into firewood. I am talking about bucking a few rounds and then splitting those and then time to stack that same arm full.
In that video we can't actually tell it turned to ice? I'm sure it did but that could also be just water falling and the steam trail?
Low 30s all morning. Rain snow mix Coal and burning up some 29-33" longs ,,, katty cornerwampus in the furnace while I'm home. Fell into a 8" separation in a retaining wall yesterday and pretty bruised up. So I'm home, warm and off my feet.
Oh. I thought folks said it takes a bag a night/day. I have no idea the consumption rate as I havent talked in a ton of detail about them to anyone. Only person I know with a similar one was a corn stove and j never talked specifics of it and that was corn.
one bag of pellets will heat both up and downstairs(approximately 3000 sq.ft. maintaining the heat through the night. this morning it was not too cold outside .so i still didn't need a fire. the house is still 66 degrees upstairs almost 13 hours after my last fire, and no pellets burning since about 8 this morning. i use the pellets when i won't be in to take care of the fire. i worked in the shop last night. i am going to burn some wood next week when the temps a going to drop . my insert won't last through the night without getting up to fill it a time or two. an armful of wood in my insert won't do the same for me. your results may vary, other restrictions may apply because that is what restrictions do: they apply! PS. scooby laying in front of wood i brought in today and the insert that will burn it.
I have a 3000sqft house but only heat about 1500 with my insert. But I dont have wall insulation in most of the house. Load will last 10-24 hours depending on setting.
My Quadrafire insert puts out heat for 10+ hours no problem. I've not yet had to pack it full of shagbark yet, but I will tomorrow.
-25 wind chill now and dropping. Gonna be a cold next couple-o-days with that wind and -0 temps for highs.
