High wind and the Defiant

Had a new experience with the Defiant. I had the cat engaged and the winds were causing a massively strong draft. Stove top was 400, but the double wall pipe was reading 450, which is super fricking hot. All the heat was being sucked out of the stove and up the pipe. I closed the primary and covered the primary air hole with foil. Stove is running a bit hot, but pipe surface temps are more acceptable.

Hoping the cat isn't fried due to this. I have a backup, but it would still suck.

 

Possible bypass leak?

 

Nope. I lifted the top griddle to poke around. Everything was being sucked into the throat baffle. Bypass was sealed properly.

 

I had a HOT fire last night as well,.. it's COLD out there! Stay warm boys!

 

I had a hotter than needed fire last night with the Defiant. We, and the stove pipe, were very warm.

 

Yikes! Wonder what the flue temp was. Hopefully everything is OK.

 

What's the temp up there on the ocean?

 

It hit 53 yesterday at 1pm at my house, on the water!!

- At 7pm it was 30
- At midnight it was 22
- At 2am it was 13
- At 7am this morning it was 8!

Pretty amazing!
