Sounds like a decent rig there

My current desktop rig is running AMD Phenom II 965 on an Asus Sabertooth M/B- 990fx chipset.

That rig is getting old now and all I do is use it for internet. I went with the high end M/B in hopes that AMD's Bulldozer would compete with Intel I series. Nope. I should have bit the bullet and gone Intel back then. In all reality I havnt needed to update the processor since my gaming days are long gone now and use the laptop more than the desktop.

Valid points, the wife uses two screen also. I have two at my part time job, after their both started I only rely on one of them.

When I moved up here 11 years ago I had gotten a laptop and used it while I was camping here. I had set up a party tent, with my camping tent under it and a dining/cooking area set up under the big top. I had strung out a phone line across the lot to the center pole and installed a splitter and a phone. I would hook up my laptop to the Dial Up. I wore the snot out of the lap top those first few years. When we had gotten the place renovated enough to move in, I dug out the Dell. I had an external drive which we now use for recording from the DVR. I have a external for the Mac also and only use it for backing up the hard drive, we don't want to lose those music files and family pic's. The flexibility in use and applications (iMac) versus the portability and physical vunerability of a lap top are huge considerations. I used to enjoy photoshopping, something I don't have access and time anymore. I suppose I should consider those types of uses also.

LOL Replacing the screws during the swap of my iPhone battery was way too small for my eyes.

OK you might be onto to something. So can anyone say if there is a way to hook up a keyboard?

Depends upon the device and the apps being used. Some of the stuff on my smart tv only uses the keyboard it places on the screen, some read a usb based keyboard. Some devices will allow the use of a Bluetooth keyboard however that can be borked by an app that won't. Too many combinations to know looking from the outside.

If you can use a remote you likely will be able to use a smart tv. It will be slow slugging at first. Might wear out several batteries getting used to the use of it as a cursor mover and the on screen keyboard covering up what you might need to enter to continue. I bought a wireless mouse and keyboard. I don't run a lot of apps that ignore the USB devices so they work for me. Some of the remotes allow for voice control of the tv.

ETA: damm little time was spent on human factors, too damm many geeks and zero common sense.

Yeah like the damm auto engineers that design an engine like it was sitting on the work bench instead of in the vehicle.

There was an older Oldsmobile (cant remember the model) that in order ro replace the rear set of spark plugs, it required you to remove the bolts to the rear engine mount and rock the engine forward then re install the bolts in that position. :hair:

    ugh! while we're on devices...

why my tv doesn't have audio out except the headphone jack, is a question that irritates me from time to time.
now is one of those times.

and one thing you sure as hell can not buy in millinocket is a 3.5mm to rca splitter.
my kingdom for a bestbuy or frys.

I wanted to go intel, But too much $$$ for what I'll use this for. Just a photo edit internet cruiser is all I'll need. I can still upgrade the CPU and I only used half the memory space. I'll add another 16 next chance I get...... The brown truck was here! ;)

    :ups:

If you have a firestick or Roku you can mirror your phone on the tv if you have a droid.

A;ways love when the new toys arrive !!
    :thumbs::thumbs:

It really sux that AMD could not keep up with Intel-who now gets to charge what they want to. Ahh, the days of the AMD Pentium Killer are indeed dead.

Chances are you wont need to up the RAM unless you are doing some heavy video editing. In most cases, 16GB is plenty

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on. At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If Ford had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, Ford issued a press release stating:

If Ford had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):

    1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash.........twice a day.

2.. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3... Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4.... Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5..... Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6...... The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.

7....... The airbag system would ask, "Are you sure?" before deploying.

8........ Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9......... Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10.......... You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

PS - I'd like to add that when all else fails, you could call "customer service" in some foreign country and be instructed in some foreign language how to fix your car yourself!
