Here's a quick video on what my burn pot looks like after running nonstop for three days. Is this normal? Seems like a lot of spillover on either side.

It's still looking sooty as you can see it burning away on the side walls. I don't have a clear view of my firepot like you. What level is it at? Dex has a similar setup and would be the one to chime in for better info. Are you running on T-stat mode?

I was running on t stat mode level 4. This is with the damper set to about half open with the set screw.

Did you do a adjustment on the trim on level #1? If not, that could be the sooty maker. When on T-stat mode, the heat level goes from #1 to #5 then back to #1. Level #4 is not in the equation but then again with the newer model might be different than what I'm telling you.

You need your damper open 100%. All the time until you upgrade or modify the stove to get more air.

That is way much stuff burning in there. That stuff that is creeping and burning is gonna build up and end up being a bad situation. . That is unburnt fuel that is building up in your stove. On the walls, inner passages, and vent.. Not good..

I would shut the unit down, and clean it. Then plug some holes in the burn pot, check your ash pan gasket, seal the trap door that's under the burn pot (that door is useless and leaks a lot of air).

Here is what I did with my pot. Even with an updated exhaust manifold, sail switch, blower motor, impeller, etc.. I still plug mine every other year because air above the pellets, does nothing. Air at pellet level/under the pellets, is what burns them. Air 4" above them? Does nothing.. Nothing at all.

So I plug them with 2,000° furnace cement. Let it dry, then scrape them after they are hard so only the hole is full.

    Like so..
    20150121_190741.jpg
    20150121_194641.jpg

And here is what I did to the back of the pot and front of the pot (some of these were before scraping. Always remove excess that sticks out.)
I experimented with a top coat of gasket sealer. It didn't help any. That's why this is black. The back doesn't have to be scraped flush. The sides are the most important, as the back of the pot has to move from the back, to the front when cleaning).
    20150121_195857.jpg

Here is the bottom halves.. The upper 5 holes, the back row, and the outer row (up high on the sides).

    20150121_190833.jpg

Then, I added gasket material to both back halves of the pot liners. Then added gasket material to the top of the burn pot receptacle. The tighter these pieces fit together, the less burn pot bypasses you have and more air that goes through the holes in the pot.

    20151222_175618.jpg
Then I'd be PMing don2222 and buying the larger impeller and possibly the motor (the set screw on the motor will likely be seized). Then an updated sail switch from Fahrenheit ($30 or so). I have a Fahrenheit parts list if you'd like it? Email me @ [email protected] and I'll send you it.

You shouldn't be closing your damper until you can get a rapid moving flame that is like a blowtorch.

My flame has improved from this point. But this is level 3 (white firebox walls) and you can see how large the flame is. On level 4 (with enough air) you should be touching the top baffle. On 5, mine hits the baffle and spreads across the whole top.
I'm posting this video, because I thought this was still kinda slow, and it was taken 3 years ago. I've come a long way with the impeller, gaskets, and motor upgrade.

On the newer units, Tstat mode you can choose level 3,4 or 5 that it will stay on when tstat calls for heat. Then idles at 1 which you said. And a little adjustment for level one leaves no soot on glass for me. 2 weeks after cleaning it comes off with paper towel. Before adjustment I needed a razor to remove deposits on glass in certain spots that the air wash blows in.

Thanks for the help. I'm looking into getting an updated sail switch, exhaust manifold, and exhaust blower.

I think mine is convex too. Same door as you. My gasket I put underneath the top portion of the burnpot is creating more air for the fire than the air glass wash. What's happening is the top portion is raised slightly creating a gap inside the burnpot where it seats to make a steel on steel seal. I will tinker more on it later.

Nice. Mine had the update as well but wasn't as lucky as you, I got another LED panel.

How's this mod working for you?

Just letting you know I found a source of corn. They wan $220 a ton. Thoughts on the price?

G/F's dad is talking to a farmer he knows tomorrow for me so see what he wants per ton.

That looks like a good vibrant flame to me, and uniform in the distribution within the burn pot. Have you done any of the mods to improve air flow in the furnace? My flame on heat setting 3 is half that size. I'm late to the party on this, been busy, so I imagine Dex or one of the other guys has provided some input.

Wow, that's a heck of a great burning stove. Still having issues with mine, just can't quite get the huge vibrant flame like you have. So many variables though, I find I Can get close but only on certain pellets. The Lacwoods burn up too quick and don't form a big base. Oh well. Still playing with it.

I like that you mentioned about the burn pot holes. I had been thinking the same thing, force more air to the one side and force the flame back the other way. Nice to know the theory works!

    Wouldn't load for me. But
Wow, even more impressed with the heats you are getting with the thermometer that far away from the outlet of the furnace. I've definitely still have a pile of work to do.

Mines the same. Not sure if it's how they make the doors, or if they warp from the heat.

I paid $ 200.00 for a 2200 lb ton for corn and $ 180.00 a ton for rye seed in 55 lb bags. makes for cheap heat when you consider
your looking at $ 340.00 with tax for a 2000 lb ton for wood pellets.
