Today I'm writing this really fighting tears because everyone of you know what is going to be said and have been there in one form or another. This morning my 14 year old lab had a major seizure, my daughter called me in extreme panic at work and I "SHOT" home. We scooped him up and got him to the Vet. While in the vet, he went into another one. Dr. sedated him and took him in the back room. Long story short, he has brain cancer/tumor from the x-rays. We have him home now but we don't know how long he has. Dr. said just keep him happy, he is on Phenobarbital for the seizures but we cannot do anything for his cancer. Dr. said we could have a day, a month, maybe 6 months. This is/was his first seizure and it lasted about 10min, It was horrible. Anyway, if you have a little prayer for my old Buddy, I would appreciate it. Thanks! DSC_0328.JPG

Dave, of course we will pray for the old lad.............Many years ago when we were first married, our first dog was a German Shepherd that we rescued. He was about 5 or 6 years old and had had a rough life. It took 2 weeks before he would even come near us. After having him for a couple years we were woke up one night @ 3 a.m. with him in a full blown seizure. We basically did what you did and found out the same diagnosis. Hard as it was, we decided that his quality of life was the pits to say the least. It was really hard for us as a newly wed couple to lose him that way, but we decided that it was also selfish on our part to force him to continue that way. I know that your family has a tough road ahead no matter what you decide, so all I can say is remember the good times and keep in mind that you gave him your undivided love. Good luck and pray we will.

So sorry for the bad news Dave. Praying it goes easily for your Lab in the time he has left, and you and your family find peace when the time comes.

Saw news, tears for sure. Get some good pictures if you can. They help with good memories and working through the tough times. Prayers that your friend is comfortable.

    X2.

    Just fyi,
I had a lab that took pheno for seizures. DO NOT miss a dose. Better late than waiting until the next dosage time.
Has something to do with the levels in the blood, and taking a long time to process the pills. I'm no vet, but I've held that dog down during many episodes, always stuck my wallet in his mouth, and seen what missing a dose does. Don't miss one.

I hope you don't have to go thru what I did.

Thank you! I appreciate all the prayers from everyone. He is acting almost like he's drunk but the Dr. said he may be like that. He's a trooper and we just had him out, you can see his passion and love is still there! Thats what hurts so much but his body is just calling it quits!

Thank you very much! We had him outside today and he seemed like he was tipsy. That seizure WHOOOOOPED his A$$! The Vet really didn't give us any instructions, and we've had this Vet for 20+ years and we trust him so… Basically it was go about things as normal but he's going to be declining. After the tests and x-rays which was $$$$$$$$$ he basically said lets not do any more and just keep him happy. So that about summed it up for us. :( We know, as do all of you, We will just be giving him the most love we can now.

If I have to put him down, this will be the third dog I've had to do this to and let me tell you, It doesn't get any easier! I'm preparing myself for it and I'm already a bucket of S#!T. I've put people in body bags, but yet I'm having sooooooooo much trouble with this.

Just the nature of life. :(
