Okay folks, it is time for us to make some real solid plans for spring. As many of you know we've been considering a GTG here at our humble place in April. It would be great to get a bunch of you guys and gals together for a good time. Here is what we'd sort of like to plan on:

    1. Felling of trees. We'll have some pros here so those who have not much experience with felling could get some real pointers from some real pros; chief amongst those should be our own Scotty Overkill! At least at present he is planning on being here along with some real hard core Hoarders, like Dexter Day, Pallet Pete, Amateur Cutter, Shawn Curry (hopefully) and many more.

    2. Skidding. We could pull some logs out using only a chain and also pull some out using a dray. We'll also be hauling some fresh cut wood in trailers.

    3. Bucking. We'll have log piles to cut from along with what we haul out on that day. We could even buck some logs right in the woods where the trees drop.

    4. Splitting. Hopefully along with our log splitter some other local folks will bring their splitters so folks can see and even try some different splitters. (We'll even show how much easier it is to split vertically; the way God meant wood to be split! )

    5. Stacking. We know some who do not like to stack wood and some folks admit they aren't too good at it. Before this is done, hopefully everyone (including me) will learn a few things and their wood stacks will be neat and strong from this point onward.

    6. Food! We plan on supplying all the meat and should have plenty. Someone (I think Dexter or Sean) will be bringing a large grill. We're also considering asking folks to bring a few things but that can be planned later.

    7. Drink! Alcohol has to come after the work is done but we are open to suggestions. If a keg is required, all that needs to be decided is what should be in that keg. Otherwise we can and probably will have some varieties. We'll also have plenty of soft drinks available through the day.

    8. Good times! There should be plenty of time for some good chatting. Perhaps there could even be some BS going on. If we run out of that, perhaps some camel turds could be thrown around.

Our place is only a couple miles off a state highway and almost in the center of Michigan's lower peninsula so very easy to get at. We are a ways from large cities which only makes it better. If some wish to bring campers, we can no doubt find places to park them.

Even if the spring turns out wet, we should not have problems because our humble little place is mostly on high ground and is yellow sand so we should not have to be concerned about anyone getting stuck in the mud.

If you plan on coming, please plan on coming to have a good time! Work is secondary. Good times is primary.

What we'd like to know now is if you are planning on attending or hopefully planning on attending. At present we are looking at April 16 or April 23. This will be after Easter.

In addition, if anyone has suggestions on what they'd like to see happen at this gtg, please let us know and we'll see if we can work it in. If someone thinks this might be too much to take on, please also let us know on that.

Closest town is Chesaning. If you form a triangle from Lansing to Flint to Saginaw, we are in that triangle, closest to Saginaw. Less than 25 miles from Pallet Pete.

EDIT: Directions will be given via private conversation when the time comes.

Well, by all means, forget the splitter and bring the shine! I think we'll have several splitters here so don't someone think they need to bring one from far away.

That's a long drive and we'd love to see you and finally meet. Perhaps you could hitch up with someone else coming from near you?

And FWIW anyone that's coming way, we could try and carpool or something. We'll try to make it happen! Anyone who wants to share some driving time would be a bonus, I could take a snooze then...lol

Sounds like a great time Dennis! Just gotta figure out if you want me sawing, splitting, or stacking... ;)

I think the best way for me to get to Michigan is through Canada, so maybe ill finally get around to getting my passport too!

I'm not too far from the Woodland Exit on I-80. That's where I'd be getting on at.

Wow. You are further east than I thought. My son should be driving through your area about right as I'm typing this! I'll keep you in mind and if possible try to hook you up with someone. Even if you could hook up with someone from western NY or eastern Ohio would help.
