We're still at 45 so we have nothing going for stoves, we'll wait until the wind advisory is off before we fire up the wood stove.
25º out, 72º in, started the stove back up after church today. 1" of snow on the ground and heading for teens tonight, 40mph wind gusts makes for a nice draw up the chimney. Should be an interesting day of hunting tomorrow, my last hooray for whitetails.
Small fire here too ( 2 small splits of poplar)to get things rolling for a reload in a few hours. Winds starting to whip outside. Heading down to around 20°ish tonight. Will reload with oak & hickory.
c-c-c-cold all day with the wind also. Kept the fire in the basement going so its nice and toasty! Shoveled for about 1/2 hour and didn't feel good at all. Back to zero now, but the wind hasn't died down like it usually does every evening.
I started the winter burning a stack of about 2 cords of Red Maple, which is on the soft end of the wood spectrum around here, mixed with some pine and cherry. Fortunately the fall and winter was mild. Today, just as the first real winter weather is approaching here, I broke into a stack of oak. It appears that my stacks can predict the weather. So looking ahead the next several winters I'll be burning Ash. Ash isn't the most dense wood we have here, but it isn't a lightweight wood either. Ash is about average here, so I predict the next several winters to be average winters here in PA
