Well, I tried to get her started today. No dice. I junk the carb is gunked up, no big shock on that. It's sat around a while. I was given this saw by my parents. My grandpa bought it new years ago. It's probably about as old as I am. I pulled the plug, it looked good, and it makes a lot of spark, so that's great. But it looks like a pita to get to the carb. I lost the choke knob while cleaning the gunk off of it. :banghead I can't believe I lost that little piece in the 2 feet of area I was working on it. It's this a piece that can still be bought? How do you get at the carb? I assume you'd have to take the bolts out of the outer case halves.
I have a twin brother to it and mine runs like a timex watch. Amazing amount of snap for a little saw.
I had one of those waaaay back when ! I paid the dealer to rebuild the carb ! I knew I could get it apart...but not sure I could get it back together Good luck......nice saw BTW !
Yea kits are always $5-10. Look on ebay for the choke. I'm sure you have to take the saw in two to get it off. I have some 009s. Carbs are mich easier but still to get muffler and cyl you have to take the sides apart. Not impossible just a pain.
Oh and Scotty Overkill has I think several of those or that series of saws including parts saws and saws in boxes. He may have one he could part with an sell ya. Worth checking with him.
The choke lever is Stihl part number 1116 182 0800 and looks like it is still available from a Stihl dealer for $2.99.
Yes, you remove the screws from the outer case halves. I think there's one or two buried under air filter cover around the carb area. Pull the spark plug and make sure you be careful with the throttle trigger and safety latch and you can slide the halves apart and get to the carb. Not my favorite model to work on, but still better than a mini Mac!!!!
Holy sheet!!! You're right!!! There have been about a half dozen sold for $20+ in the past two months!!! Call your dealer. And maybe order about 100 of them and sell them on ebay!
Yea on the model I have the trigger mechanism is the pain. But not hard. Just pay attention. Your will be different

Dad's got 2 of these in his basement. One was his, and the other his dad's. Growing up I remember Dad cursing all the time at his little 015l! It never started each time he needed it, so he'd take it to the dealership for work. After that, it'd run for maybe a tank or 2 and then would stop until the next time he needed to bring down a tree. I've always thought about getting them both from Dad and seeing if I could get one going, they haven't been fired up in 15 years.
